For enduring adverse circumstances and inverted practices, it is needed during the degenerate age. It is said that when the body and mind are comfortable and happy, one tends to want to do all sorts of non-Dharma activities. Looking at the essence of what is considered happiness, it is not established as a real thing. Merely the appearance of happiness, give it to sentient beings and take it onto the path. Do not let the appearance of happiness control you, but rather be able to master it, that is the suppression of happiness. If suffering arises, do not be discouraged, but look at its essence, it will vanish into emptiness. On top of the appearance of suffering, take on the unwanted suffering of all sentient beings and be able to master yourself, that is the end of all suffering. When all unwanted and undesirable things befall you, consider this as a friend for destroying self-cherishing, as desired and wished for. To self-grasping, say, this is exactly what you need, destroy you no matter what, thinking this way, let go with a relaxed and comfortable mind. If inauspicious omens and miracles occur, what should be accepted? What should be chosen? All sorts of conceptual thoughts will arise. At that time, this is what is needed. It is good that it happened. Pile all the inauspicious omens on top of this self-cherishing, thinking this way, let go without hesitation. These are the four inverted suppression methods that other antidotes cannot subdue. I am the root of faults, a Dharma to be discarded far away. Others are the source of qualities, a Dharma to be grasped tightly. These two antidotes are the concluding Dharma, needed when taming the borderlands. For enduring adverse circumstances and inverted practices, it is needed during the degenerate age. It is said that, in short, the root of mind training, all lies in abandoning self-interest far away and grasping onto the benefit of others, therefore this is the summary of the teachings, take it as the root of practice. Turn back, stare at turning back, stare and stare. Crush, after crushing, relax and let go. In this way, one will not be bound, but will want liberation. That is to say, no matter what subtle or coarse afflictions and conceptual thoughts arise, if you follow them and the mind wanders outward, there will be no difference from ordinary people, and the path will go astray. Therefore, greatly turn the mind inward and nakedly observe its essence. After observing, in the emptiness that is not seen, crush it. Relax and let go, so that no matter how many conceptual thoughts and afflictions there are, they will not bind, but will transform into the wisdom of self-liberation, which is ultimate Bodhi.

This is the essence of the mind's training stages. Thus, the pith instructions on mind training that arose from the teachings of Jowo Je Lhachik (Atisha and Dromtönpa), and the various lineages of guiding methods, all the key points of practice are contained within this Seven Points treatise. There are many extensive and concise guidebooks, and countless teachers who explain them. Among them, the particularly excellent guidebooks of Gyalsé Rinpoche Thogmé Zangpo and Jetsun Kunga Nyingpo provide detailed instructions on the methods. Therefore, the essence of the nectar of the speech of these two great beings has been condensed into one, mainly extracting what is easy for beginners to understand. It has been compiled into clear and easy-to-understand sentences solely with the good intention of benefiting others. It is the root of the Sutra and Tantra paths, the essence of all sacred Dharmas, profound and easy to practice, and the most extraordinary of all guiding methods. It is difficult to hear such profound Dharma, and difficult to practice after hearing it. Those who practice this and possess merit and wealth are as rare as gold in the world today. Therefore, much talk is the cause of fatigue, but with the intention of benefiting others, may all sentient beings, through the virtue of doing this, develop the two Bodhicittas. Thus, urged for a long time by my own student, the scholar of the five sciences, Karma Thutop, and recently, in order to not steal away the precious Bodhicitta, by the supreme incarnate Karma Thabkhé Namrol, who vows to uphold the commitment, and Lama Karma Ngedön, and others who are fortunate enough to devote themselves to practice, to clarify their intentions, and in response to repeated requests, Lodrö Thaye, a subject of the loving protector Karma Situ, composed this at Palpung Yangwen Kunsang Dechhen Ösal Ling, may it benefit limitless beings. May goodness and excellence increase! Treasury of Pith Instructions, Volume Four. The Great Vehicle Mind Training, A Guide to the Seven Points, Written for the Easy Entry of Those with Inferior Intelligence, The Bodhi Path.
