It is necessary. Among sentient beings, those who perform pure virtuous deeds are very few, so it is very difficult to obtain the fruit of leisure and endowment. Compared to other realms such as animals, obtaining a human body is only a possibility. Now that I have obtained this human body once, I must not waste it, and I must practice the pure Dharma. However, life is impermanent and there are many causes of death. Not to mention tomorrow, even today there is no certainty of not dying, so one must strive for the holy Dharma immediately. At the time of death, only good and evil accompany us, and food, wealth, enjoyment, dwelling, body, and power do not accompany us, nor do they have any benefit, so they are useless. After death, wherever one is born in the six realms due to karma, there is only suffering, and not a bit of happiness. The results of happiness and suffering arise from good and evil deeds, which is true and infallible, so one will not do evil even if it costs one's life. One should practice virtue with great diligence, and practice diligently in this way. At the end of each session, practice the seven-branch offering as much as possible. During the breaks between sessions, put the meaning of the object of focus into practice, that is, practice in this way in all preliminary and main practices. Second, the main practice is divided into two: cultivating ultimate Bodhicitta as a side practice, and mainly cultivating conventional Bodhicitta. The former is divided into two: during sessions and during breaks between sessions. The preliminary practice of the former is, after the Guru Yoga, sit upright and count the exhalation and inhalation, without confusion for twenty-one times, so that it becomes a suitable vessel for meditation. The main practice is, as it is said: "View all phenomena as dreams." Thus, all phenomena of the vessel and contents of the world, appearing as objects to be grasped, are only illusions of one's own mind, and in reality there is not the slightest true establishment, just like the appearance of a dream. Think like this and practice a little. If you think about whether the nature of mind is true, as it is said: "Examine the nature of unborn awareness." Thus, if you look at the nature of your own mind with great force, then no color, shape, etc. is established, and there is no source of arising, so it is initially unborn. Now it does not abide in any place inside or outside the body. In the end, there is no place to go or cease, and one should obtain a definite understanding of the nature of awareness that is free from arising, ceasing, and abiding through the investigation of searching for the mind.

Thinking, "My life, body, and mind are all empty," and "Emptiness has no benefit or harm whatsoever," etc., if antidotal thoughts arise, the antidote itself will dissolve on its own. It is said, "When the essence of the antidote, the thought of non-reality, is examined, that itself will dissolve into its own ground without support." Relax loosely in that state. These are instructions on the key points of accomplishment for those who contemplate. "Rest in the state of the essence, the alaya." This directly shows the way to rest, which is to separate from all the activity of the seven collections of consciousness, and to rest in the state of the essence of all phenomena, the alaya, which is indicated by the terms "virtuous dharma" and "tathagatagarbha," which has the characteristics of being free from elaboration, clear, and non-conceptual. Do not grasp anything with the mind in that which is unestablished in any way, but rest in its natural state. In short, do not follow after conceptual thoughts, but rest the mind evenly in the state of clarity and non-conceptuality, wherever it abides. This is the essence of resting meditation. The seven-limbed practice that follows is performed as before. Second, during the breaks between sessions, act like a magical being. That is to say, during the breaks between sessions, whatever activity you do, do not separate from the experience of equipoise. Continuously cultivate the intention to know that all that appears, both self and others, vessel and contents, appears as if it were non-existent, like a magical being. Second, the cultivation of relative bodhicitta has three parts: preparation, main practice, and the dharma of the breaks between sessions. First, the preliminaries, etc., are as before. It is necessary to cultivate loving-kindness and compassion as the basis for giving and taking. Specifically, first visualize your root mother in front of you. She has cared for me with great effort since I was in her womb. She endured all sickness, cold, and hunger. She gave me food and clothing, wiped away impurities, taught me goodness, and prevented me from doing evil. Therefore, now I am able to encounter the teachings of the Buddha and practice the Dharma. Her kindness is very great. Not only in this life, but also in countless lifetimes, she has done the same. She has worked for my sake, and therefore she herself wanders in samsara and experiences various sufferings. Cultivate a strong sense of compassion for this. Then, generate compassion that is not just lip service, and having become skilled, gradually train to expand the scope. Think that all sentient beings are just like your root mother, and that from beginningless time, there is not one who has not been your mother, not one who has not shown you kindness.
