The mud is, and when fleeing again, it falls into the impure mud of the nine impurities called Naromye (Tibetan), and feels an unpleasant smell, faints, and almost loses consciousness. In the center of the mud, many iron-mouthed and copper-mouthed insects appear, gnawing at the body like woodworms. The road filled with razors, etc., is that from a distance, it looks like a pleasant oasis. When running there, the entire ground is covered with four-finger-wide razors, suffering from the pain of being cut off from the feet, etc. The sword-leaf forest summarized from the "etc." is that when suffering from extreme heat, a green forest is seen from a distance. Happily running over there, when arriving there, all the leaves turn into swords and other weapons, which are blown by the wind and fall like rain, cutting the body into many pieces. The silk-cotton tree is that being chased by many ferocious animals, seeing a huge silk-cotton tree, when climbing it, there are many sixteen-finger-long iron thorns facing downwards, the body is pierced, and gradually reaching the top, many ferocious birds appear, and various terrifying scenes such as digging out eyes and pecking meat occur. When falling downwards again, the thorns face upwards, and the body is pierced, etc. These three are the harm of weapons, so they are classified as one. The fourth is the immeasurable river of ashes, suffering from extreme heat, seeing a river flowing from a distance, running there and jumping down without hesitation, it is a mixture of water and fire, extremely hot, deep and wide. When the body sinks into the water, it is completely boiled, the flesh and bones separate, and the flesh floats up, and life remains on the bones. After becoming a skeleton, it floats on the water like copper. Immediately, the flesh grows back as before, and sinks again, etc. The lifespan of these is uncertain, but each must stay for hundreds or even thousands of years, so the pain is severe and the time is long. The basis and conclusion of the visualization are the same as before. This is the eleventh visualization. Now we must contemplate the suffering of the neighboring hells, whose abode is uncertain, in the lower and upper mountains, plains, and waters, etc. The lifespan is also uncertain, some longer than the lifespan of the fundamental hells.

There are those with long lives, and there are those with short lives. The ways of experiencing suffering are also uncertain and varied. The sutra says: "Experiencing the happiness of gods during the day and experiencing the suffering of hell at night," and so on. Hells are like beds, like walls, like mortars, like knives, like trees, like brooms, etc. The forms of the body are also uncertain and varied. The basis of visualization and the conclusion are the same as before. This is the twelfth visualization session. In these times, one should also generate certainty through stories like "Ears of a Hundred Thousand Leaves" and the biographies of noble Sangha, etc. Second, contemplating the suffering of pretas: The preliminary and the basis of visualization are as before. Think in this way: I am not born in hell. If I were born in the preta realm, would there be happiness? There is no happiness there either, because there are two types of pretas: settled and wandering. The first is in the city called Preta City, five hundred yojanas below the ground, which is the capital of Yama, the Lord of Dharma, the chief of all pretas. Countless pretas live near it. The wandering pretas wander in the sky, wander on the ground, and wander underground, and their number is also countless. If someone with clairvoyance were to look, pretas would be everywhere, no matter where they went. There is not even a place to stand. Among these pretas, only a very few with great magical powers are slightly happier, but all the others are very miserable. The Great Mindfulness Sutra says that there are thirty-six types of pretas. These can be grouped into three The pretas with external obscurations are: they cannot find food or drink for many years. Even if they see a pile of food from afar, when they get close, it disappears as if it were empty, and they see nothing. When they go to the bank of a great river, the water turns into gravel. When they approach a tree full of fruit, the tree turns into a dry tree, and so on. Some pretas are also guarded by many rakshasas who do not allow them to approach. The pretas with internal obscurations are: their mouths become as small as the eye of a needle, so they cannot even eat or drink at first.
