'Kyi-hud' refers to being unable to produce clear syllables due to the extreme cold, only emitting a faint sound of danger. 'So-tham-tham-pa' refers to the extreme cold causing the body to tremble and emit a high-pitched sound, with teeth chattering and colliding. Splitting like an উৎপལ་ (utpala) flower means the body splits into four or eight pieces, and so on. Splitting like a lotus means the body splits into a hundred pieces, and so on. Splitting greatly like a lotus means that due to the extreme cold, each part of the body splits into a hundred or a thousand pieces. Regarding lifespan, for the blister hells, fill a large container that can hold eighty khals with sesame seeds. Every hundred years, remove one sesame seed. When all the sesame seeds are gone, that is the lifespan of beings in the blister hells. The lifespans of the lower hells increase twentyfold. This, like the hot hells, has a basis for contemplation and a conclusion. This is one of the ten contemplations. Now, contemplate the suffering of the surrounding hells. The 'Abhidharmakosha' states: 'Sixteen more than a hundred, on the four sides of these, are the fire of uncrossable mire, corpses, and rivers of razors.' That is, each of the eight hot hells has these four surrounding hells on each of its four sides. Among them, the pit of uncrossable mire is filled with impassable mire of corpses, and the pit's mouth is very large. Whether beings are born there from the beginning or escape from the hot hells, because the suffering is too intense, they cannot stay in one place and can only flee, resulting in falling into the mire pit. Depending on the power of karma, some are submerged only to the waist, some only to the knees, and the situation is uncertain. Even if they want to escape, they turn back due to dizziness.
