My relatives will also die, ordinary people and enemies will also die, and after they die, I cannot be sure that I will live. In general, death is inevitable. There is no need to add anything more. Time passes by every moment, and life is constantly decreasing. With each passing moment, we get closer to death. Day by day, we get closer to death. Month by month, we get closer to death. Year by year, we get closer to death. Therefore, death comes quickly. I must practice the Dharma, and I must not think that I can wait until I am old and do it step by step. This short life does not allow such waste. For example, some people die when they are sixty years old and still young, without practicing the Dharma. When they are old and want to practice, their physical and mental strength is exhausted, and it is of no use. Half of the remaining time is spent sleeping. In addition, for the sake of livelihood, for walking, sitting, and various meaningless pastimes, even if we have strong will and diligence, the time truly spent practicing the Dharma is very short. The great masters of the past spent a lot of time to realize the Dharma, and I must quickly realize it, so I must think that in this short life, I must not delay the Dharma, I must not be lazy, and I must not make excuses. Think about the reasons like this, and meditate repeatedly, which is very important. This is the fifth point of contemplation. The second point is to think that there is no certainty when death will come. Not only is our lifespan generally short, but there is also no certainty when death will come. If we are lucky, perhaps the karma of our previous lives will allow us to live to sixty or seventy years old, but it is very likely that we will not live that long. Even if we can live that long, we cannot start counting from today, because half or most of the time has already passed. There is also a situation where the karma of our previous lives only allows us to live to thirty or forty years old, and the Lord of Death has already arrived at the door. The enemies, relatives, wealth, possessions, retinue, friends, happiness and suffering, and various idle talks of this life cannot accompany us for long. In any case, we must think, what should we do? As it is said: The earth, Mount Meru, the ocean, and the seven suns, all these sentient beings burned by the fire, not even ashes will remain.

If so, then there's no need to mention how much weaker people are. As it is said, this collection of body, flesh, blood, and pus diminishes each day. The breath is unstable, like autumn mist, never staying for long. The mind has no autonomy and no certainty about anything, so one doesn't know when one will die. As it is said: It is not right to be at ease, thinking that one will not die today. The time when I will cease to exist will surely come, and it will not be devoured by demons. As it is said, one should meditate. Nagarjuna said: The causes of death are many, but the causes of life are few. Those themselves are also causes of death, therefore, always accumulate Dharma. As it is said. External causes include sentient beings such as humans, livestock, and demons, and objects and elements such as cliffs, fire, and water. Internal causes include four hundred and four types of diseases, etc. In short, for the causes of death, there is nothing that cannot become a cause. If one considers food, clothing, shelter, medicine, etc., as causes of not dying and living, then unsuitable food, wrong medicine, etc., all these causes of living will at some point become causes of death. I am situated amidst evil conditions like a violent storm attacking body and life, so one should think, 'I don't know when I will die.' This is the sixth point of contemplation. The third point is to think that for death, anything that is not Dharma is of no use whatsoever. As Shantideva said: When the messengers of the Lord of Death seize one,
