It is not enough to have a mere intellectual understanding; it is crucial to clearly focus your attention on your own body and mind. The key to this is clearly explained in the 'Mind Training' (Blo-sbyong). The 'Bodhicharyavatara' and the 'Shikshasamuccaya' also contain detailed explanations. Gyaltsab Je said, "The nature of equality between self and others is attained by cherishing others more than oneself. Thus, one understands that benefiting others is supreme. What is the benefit of self, and what is the benefit of others?" Although you may repeatedly practice meditating on emptiness, you have not truly realized the absence of inherent existence. Although you may say "like a mirage, like an illusion," it has become merely a formality and you have not grasped the essential point. If gross conceptual thoughts of enemies, friends, enjoyments, and conversations still remain, then emptiness and compassion are contradictory. Therefore, it is crucial to generate and firmly establish the recognition of illusion-like qualities from the depths of your heart towards your own body, mind, possessions, enemies, and friends. This is also one session of practice. Furthermore, practice contemplating the difficulty of finding leisure and opportunity, impermanence of death, suffering of samsara, karma and its effects, faith in the Dharma, loving-kindness and compassion, the mind of enlightenment, and meditating on the two selflessnesses. These can be practiced in rotation daily or in each session, sometimes in order, sometimes in reverse order, sometimes individually, sometimes mixed together, sometimes focusing on the part that counteracts mental afflictions, and sometimes practicing what you find easy to practice. This is also one session of practice. In daily practice, mainly practice these four aspects: constantly remembering impermanence, contemplating the meaning of karma and its effects, generating compassion for all beings in the three realms of samsara, and abiding in equanimity in the state of reality free from elaborations. Practice the other aspects as auxiliary practices. When practicing these teachings, associate with virtuous lamas or good friends. During breaks between sessions, reading or listening to scriptures can enhance the effectiveness of your practice, strengthen your faith in the Dharma, and increase devotion. In particular, pay attention to the teachings of the early Kadampa masters, carefully study works such as the 'Stages of the Doctrine' (bstan rim), and integrate their essential points into your own practice. This is also one session of practice. The above four points are key to daily practice, removing obstacles, and enhancing practice. It is not necessary to deliberately divide the number of meditation sessions, and even if you do divide the number of meditation sessions, there is no contradiction. Third root section, up to here.

The method of attaining the supreme fruit of enlightenment is: By listening to the great scriptures in detail, one will understand. There is not enough to explain here. The essence is, as the venerable teacher Āryadeva said: Morality and generosity are for the benefit of others, Diligence and patience are for oneself, Samādhi and wisdom are the cause of liberation, Compassion accomplishes all purposes. It is also said: These seven are without omission, All are due to the perfection of pāramitā, The realm of inconceivable wisdom, The protector of the world will surely attain. As it is said, it means that with the mind of enlightenment as motivation, and practicing the six perfections such as generosity, one's mind will not go to anything other than the Dharma, and naturally faith in the Three Jewels will arise, fear of karma and its results will arise, and renunciation of samsara will arise. If one single-mindedly practices the Dharma, without being tired, and joy naturally increases, whether stable samādhi arises or not, it is considered to have grasped the key point of practice, and a small accumulation path has arisen in the mind. Then, on the accumulation path, slightly realizing the meaning of impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness, this is called the samādhi of a child's near practice. After that, the combination of the power of practice and the power of accumulating merit, as it is said, "Form is like the head being cut off," etc., like realizing that the five aggregates are like illusions, and gradually realizing the selflessness of phenomena, this is called the samādhi of distinguishing meaning. Starting from the path of seeing, the wisdom of directly realizing freedom from elaboration arises on the ten bhūmis of the bodhisattva, this is called the samādhi that focuses on suchness. From the first to the seventh bhūmi, there is a small part of the Tathāgata's good samādhi, and in the eighth, ninth, and tenth bhūmis, there are small, medium, and large parts. In the perfect Buddha bhūmi, there is the ultimate part of the Tathāgata's good samādhi. These four samādhis are the wisdom of directly realizing the essence, and the details should be understood elsewhere. Although these four samādhis are not written in the previous text, they are recorded as they appear in the sutras. It is relatively difficult from the beginning to grasping the key point of practice, so it is very important to put aside all other things and strive wholeheartedly. After that, one must also increase one's efforts.
