It is necessary to act according to what Napopoto said. This is the thirteenth contemplation. If the mind abides in this kind of view's practice, then even if (shamatha) is not accomplished, vipassanā will be accomplished, because from the very beginning it is considered that there is a union of shamatha and vipassanā. Third, possessing the essence of emptiness and compassion: For this, merely relying on emptiness does not lead to the accomplishment of the Prajnaparamita, so a union of emptiness and compassion is necessary. In this way, ultimately, any dharma encompassed by appearance and existence is not established, just like space. If one directly realizes this non-establishment, then there are no sentient beings who experience suffering, and there is no suffering to be experienced. From the way of experiencing, the three—afflictions, karma, and suffering—mutually revolving from one to another, are not established from the beginning. However, precisely because this is not realized, the appearance of sentient beings who experience suffering also arises, the appearance of suffering to be experienced also arises, and the way of experiencing and the way of revolving also arise. Although all of this is an appearance that does not exist, like sentient beings deceived by illusion, experiencing various kinds of suffering is truly pitiful. May the delusion of these beings be cleared away, and may they be placed in the state of the Buddha who has realized the true nature. Ultimately, the self is not established, those sentient beings are not established, delusion is not established, and the path that eliminates delusion is not established. However, just as suffering and obscurations appear to exist in the mere appearance of conventional delusion, the path also appears to exist. By meditating on the path, delusion is cleared away, and one naturally abides in the state of the Buddha who abides in the true nature. Just as an illusionist, with an illusion-like self, teaches an illusion-like path or dharma to illusion-like sentient beings, may this being, exhausted by illusion-like suffering, be liberated into the dharmadhatu. Suffering, what is experienced, and the one who experiences—all are not established in truth. It is impossible for any dharma of appearance and sound to be established in truth. However, if one clings to permanence, even if there were a truly established suffering, there is no suffering to be experienced that is greater than experiencing this false suffering. If one realizes that this does not exist, one naturally remains liberated, but it is pitiful that this is not realized. Think and meditate on these words again and again. This is the sixty-fourth contemplation. Now it is about its...

During practice, spend one day meditating solely on emptiness, one day meditating solely on compassion, and one day meditating on the union of emptiness and compassion as before. By doing this repeatedly, results will arise. Sometimes, meditate on emptiness alone for one session, compassion alone for one session, and the union of emptiness and compassion for one or two sessions. By doing this repeatedly at times, results will come. One session. Now, here, there is talk of terminology for dispelling obstacles. The union of emptiness and compassion is the core of practice. To this, obstacles of attachment to the happiness of this life arise. Do you desire to have more enjoyment in this life, to hear pleasant words, and to have greater eloquence? Also, you hope that others will regard you as a good practitioner, and you hope to be superior to others. Deep down, without having eliminated attachment, you engage in various activities to refute others and to uphold your own side, such as living alone in the mountains, engaging in solitary retreat, practicing austerities, staying in gardens, becoming monks who only desire food, taking vows for the sake of fame, or falsely pretending to be humble. Ultimately, you hope that everyone will develop faith in you, and you hope to be a victor, acting as if temporarily gaining victory, and so on. These are all ways of pursuing worldly glory under the guise of Dharma. This is contrary to emptiness and compassion. These are like food mixed with poison. From the very beginning, the thoughts and actions of ordinary people have gone completely to the extremes of black and white, which, although the most reprehensible basis, at least did not become an object of false beauty, like being mixed with virtuous deeds. For these, it is necessary to repeatedly remember the thoughts of the lesser person. Regarding the obstacles of attachment to the happiness of gods and humans in the future, because you have not eliminated the attachment to the happiness of samsara, you may give alms, keep vows, and do some orderly virtuous deeds, but you pray for future lives to have complete happiness with food, clothing, wealth, dwellings, sons, daughters, servants, and power. This goes against emptiness and compassion. For this, you need to repeatedly meditate on the thoughts of the middling person. Even if the mind is inclined towards the Dharma, if you only think of your own benefit, it is contrary to emptiness and compassion. For this, you need to meditate on equality and exchange of self and others. That is it.
