The supreme offering, the veneration of the Sangha, the torma to the bhutas, prostrations, offerings, circumambulation, recitation of dharanis and mantras, faith, meditation, meditating on loving-kindness and compassion, meditating on patience, and so forth, one should think, "I must train in these." Listening to the Dharma, the accumulation of wisdom, holding the words, contemplating the meaning, cutting doubts with reason from the perspective of contradictions and connections, is called expanding without conceptually elaborating the three spheres. Understanding from hearing that all samsara and nirvana are unreal, gaining certainty from knowing, thinking, and contemplating, directly realizing from meditation, one must have this one, therefore one should think, "I must train in this meaning." Offerings and so forth are grasped by the view of unreality, and training in this way within that view, merit turns into wisdom, wisdom turns into merit, one should repeatedly think of making the two accumulations unite as one. During all session breaks, one should also try to put those into practice as appropriately as possible. The forty-third object of focus. The third training is that if one needs to train in the four pairs and eight branches, then the four black dharmas are generally very faulty. In particular, they are the cause of forgetting bodhicitta after rebirth. The four white dharmas are generally very beneficial. In particular, they are the cause of remembering bodhicitta in all lifetimes. Therefore, one should abandon the four black dharmas and train in the four white dharmas. Among them, the first pair is deceiving the lama, the object of generosity, and those worthy of offerings, which is a black dharma. "Deceiving" means deceiving them with lies. As its antidote, one abandons all intentional lying. If one does not speak even subtle intentional lies to ordinary people, how much less should one deceive those worthy of offerings? The second pair is causing others to regret what is not a cause for regret, which is called a black dharma. One should generate regret for what is a cause for regret, sin, but if one tries to cause regret for what is not a cause for regret, doing good deeds, then whether one regrets it or not, it is a black dharma. The way to generate regret is to say, "This giving is too much, what will we eat if we give this much?" Or, "If you take vows, all these children and wives will go hungry," or, "If you don't retaliate against the enemy, you will become weak and vulnerable," and so on. As its antidote, one should rejoice in the virtues of the three vehicles of sentient beings, and train in the white dharma. Mind

One should guide sentient beings to enter the three vehicles according to their inclinations. Especially, one should try to establish them in the Great Vehicle. One should encourage them to perform any kind of virtuous deeds that can be accomplished. Moreover, it is necessary to make them generate the aspiration towards enlightenment. Even for those who do not perform virtuous deeds, one should try to make them engage in virtuous deeds again, so how could regret arise? Now, one should train with the third pair (of black and white dharmas): Speaking unpleasant words to a person who has generated bodhicitta is called a black dharma. Unpleasant words refer to criticizing directly or indirectly. Whether bodhicitta has arisen or not, whether it has declined or not, it is all the same. After saying "I have generated bodhicitta," one should not belittle or slander. The antidote to this is to cultivate the perception of all sentient beings as teachers, which is the white dharma to be practiced. All sentient beings possess the essence of the Tathagata, and in terms of accumulating merit and purifying obscurations, they are no different from the Buddha. As it is said in the scriptures: "For sentient beings and the Buddhas, it is the same in accomplishing the Dharma of the Buddha." Therefore, after generating the perception of all sentient beings as teachers, if one always praises and extols, then even for ordinary aspirants, one will not slander but praise. How much more so for those who have generated bodhicitta, how could one slander them? The fourth pair is: Treating sentient beings with deceit and cunning is called a black dharma. Deceiving or defrauding others in order to accomplish one's own benefit, even cheating in measuring tools, is a black dharma. The antidote to this is to treat all sentient beings with benefit, happiness, and superior intention, which is the white dharma. Benefit and happiness refer to establishing them in the happiness of this life and the next. Superior intention refers to taking on the burden of benefiting others oneself. Furthermore, one should not act with deceptive means, but speak honestly with a sincere heart, and treat others like one's own parents and children, without inner and outer distinctions. One should train in this way. If one must abide in the superior intention of benefiting all sentient beings, then where is there an opportunity to perceive the deception of others? These white dharmas must be taken very seriously as the core practice. From now on, I will never do the four black dharmas, and I will strive to practice the four white dharmas as much as I can. One should think in this way. The forty-fourth mind training instruction. Here, each pair (of black and white dharmas) is made into a separate mind training instruction.
