The good complexion and luster fade, turning into an unsightly dark purple or bluish-gray. The hair turns white like aster flowers, and all the senses lose their brilliance. The form changes, teeth fall out, the body becomes crooked, limbs are twisted, muscles atrophy, skin loosens, and the original appearance, like an old cushion, is covered with wrinkles, making it unpleasant to look at. The decline of strength is manifested by needing support when standing, staggering when walking, collapsing like a broken rope when sitting, and speaking incoherently, among other things. The decline of the senses is manifested by unclear vision, deafness, etc., making others think one is pretending. The decline of enjoyment is manifested by hunger when eating little, indigestion when eating much, etc., making it impossible to enjoy desires. I have not escaped the suffering of aging; if I live long and age, I will eventually grow old. Meditate that all beings, including friends, enemies, etc., are the same as me. This is the twenty-third contemplation. Thinking about the suffering of illness: There are other sufferings, arising from past karma and present conditions, causing various kinds of diseases. Meditate that all beings, including friends, enemies, etc., are the same as me. This is the twenty-third contemplation. Thinking about the suffering of illness: There are other sufferings, arising from past karma and present conditions, causing various kinds of diseases. There are also five sufferings: the increase of pain and discomfort, which refers to the actual pain. The change in the nature of the body refers to muscle atrophy, dry skin, etc. Being unable to enjoy what is liked and having to accept what is disliked refers to being unable to do what one wants in terms of diet and behavior, and having to accept unwanted treatments like scraping and moxibustion. The separation from the life force refers to the suffering caused by death or having to die; illness itself is a preliminary experience of the suffering of death. I will also eventually become ill due to illness. Meditate that all beings, including my friends and enemies, are the same as me. This is the twenty-fourth contemplation. There are other sufferings, namely the five sufferings of death, which are the enjoy

Separation from perfect wealth, separation from perfect roots, separation from perfect retinue and friends, separation from a poor and miserable body, death itself is suffering and extreme discomfort. We are attached to and crave for our homeland, or houses, or possessions, or superiors above, or servants below, all direct friends will be separated, and we must die with great pain of severance. Practice in detail as explained earlier when discussing the impermanence of death. The twenty-fifth object of focus. There are other sufferings as well, the suffering of seeking desires and not finding them. That is, for the sake of enjoyment, or quarrels, or to obtain small benefits, one throws oneself into battle without regard for life, or goes to distant places that require many years of travel, and is always engaged in endless and unceasing labor. The blood of the feet becomes stone, the blood of the hands becomes wood, the knees become horses, the tendons become whips, running south and north, but no wishes are fulfilled. All hunger and thirst are endured, all heat and cold are despised, there is no leisure day or night. Even if flesh, blood, and hair are exhausted, one cannot even make a living. Effort is in vain, and the mind feels frustrated. There is also the suffering of encountering unpleasant things. One is controlled by enemies, or disease and severe pain descend, or one encounters deadly animals, or falls off a cliff, or is carried away by water, or hears bad words, or is imprisoned and suffers punishment, and so on. There is also the suffering of separation from loved ones. Parents, siblings, close family, friends, etc., once separated from indispensable things, the mind will produce unbearable pain, and the body will decay like a bucket with a broken rope. Similarly, when property is lost, or territory declines, or power is lost, or anything that one cherishes and loves declines, great sorrow arises in the mind. Thus, I cannot escape these sufferings either. And so on, practice as above. Thus, these seven sufferings are also experienced by other beings, but because humans mainly experience these sufferings, they are explained here. The eighth suffering is to be contemplated here.
