Then contemplate those results. If each of these ten non-virtuous actions is done very strongly and repeatedly, one will be born in hell; if done moderately, one will be born as a hungry ghost; if done weakly and rarely, one will be born as an animal. Being born in those suffering realms is the result of maturation. Killing leads to a short life; taking what is not given leads to a lack of resources; sexual misconduct leads to many enemies; lying leads to much slander against oneself; divisive speech leads to friends becoming enemies; harsh speech leads to hearing unpleasant sounds; idle chatter leads to one's words not being heeded by others; covetousness leads to wishes not being fulfilled; harmful intent leads to suffering and fear arising in the mind; wrong views lead to being very foolish and deluded. These are the results of experiencing the cause. The result of acting in accordance with the cause is: having done those actions before, one will like to do those actions again later. The dominant result is: it appears in the external world of objects. Killing leads to fruits and medicines, etc., becoming less effective; taking what is not given leads to bad harvests; sexual misconduct leads to places being dusty and dirty; lying leads to places being uneven and difficult to travel; divisive speech leads to places becoming hot; harsh speech leads to sand and gravel, etc., increasing; idle chatter leads to the seasons being reversed, winter rotting, spring stiffening, summer drying, autumn being poor, and so on. Covetousness leads to grains becoming small; harmful intent leads to tastes becoming unpleasant; wrong views lead to fruits not growing from the root. Thus, these results of acting in accordance with the cause, and these dominant results, also appear in the very life in which those actions were done. When one is born in a good realm in a future life, they will also appear at various uncertain times. Therefore, these ten non-virtuous actions are the source of various undesirable sufferings, so from now on, even if faced with life-threatening danger, do not do them. For everything that has been done before, one must also strive to find a way to purify it, and one must repeatedly practice in this way. This is the eighteenth object of focus. Now one should contemplate virtuous actions, hi

Obtaining the body of a deva and all other happiness in samsara arises from virtuous actions. The three kayas of enlightenment that transcend the world also arise from virtue. I should purify all sins and learn all virtues to the best of my ability. Although there are many kinds of virtues to be learned, the initial entry point for all virtues is what is called the "ten white virtues." This refers to abandoning the previously mentioned ten non-virtues through the mind, and returning through speech and action, which is the mind of renunciation with conduct. One should meditate, thinking: I will always abide in this. The meaning of abandoning the ten non-virtues with the mind is: recognizing that these actions have faults and great defects, and never wanting to do them. Returning through body and speech means: not only not doing these ten actions at ordinary times or in leisure, but even if doing them seems profitable, or if opportunities arise where they can be done without effort, one is unable to even begin to engage in these evil deeds because of the previous abandonment in the mind. For the seven actions of body and speech, both of these conditions must be met, while for the three actions of mind, abandoning with the mind alone is sufficient. Thinking that non-virtue is undesirable, that very thought is the mind of renunciation. This is because recognizing the undesirable through the undesirable is unconfused conventional wisdom, and therefore it transforms into a Dharma that is an antidote to the path, and this is the essence of discipline. If the mind of renunciation is strong, it may sometimes be interrupted by sleep, drowsiness, or distraction. But when such a situation is encountered, recognizing that it is a misdeed, one will not do it and will restrain oneself. This arises from the power of the previous thought, and that power comes from the power of the seed. Therefore, the mind of renouncing the ten non-virtues, together with the seed, is the ten virtues. The nineteenth contemplation. Now one should contemplate the benefits of the ten virtues. That is, fully practicing the ten virtuous actions will result in the maturation of karma, leading to rebirth as a deva. If practiced in a small way, it will result in the maturation of karma, leading to obtaining a human body. The sutras say that even if it is a virtuous action, if it is mixed with impure motivation, it will lead to rebirth as an asura. The result that is the same as the cause and the dominant result are also the same as before.
