Thinking about arising from causes and conditions: Practicing the sacred Dharma relies on the mind, and the mind relies on the leisure and endowment of the human body. The assembly of favorable conditions is also difficult. To be without illness and not tormented by suffering, not controlled by others, and to obtain an autonomous body, one must strive to practice the Dharma in any case. The preliminary practice is taking refuge and generating Bodhicitta. Afterwards, one should repeatedly and earnestly cultivate from the depths of one's heart, and finally dedicate the merit and integrate actions into yoga. This is the seventh instruction. Then, think about the wheel of birth and death: Thus, all sentient beings in the three realms and six paths experience the cycle of birth and death, each enduring suffering. However, until now, the hope of liberation is still distant. When one obtains leisure and endowment, one wastes time and does not use it for Dharma practice, which is truly regrettable. I should make the leisure and endowment meaningful, and thus practice with the three aspects of preliminary, main practice, and subsequent practice. This is the eighth instruction. Then, think about the praise of leisure and endowment: The Arhatship of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, and the Bodhi of the Buddhas, are all obtained from the basis of leisure and endowment. The great teachings of Secret Mantra can only be accomplished through leisure and endowment. The basis of all teachings of the Great and Small Vehicles is said to be the noble leisure and endowment. I should also, in this life, grasp the gateway to liberation from this leisure and endowment. Thus, starting from the preliminary practice of generating Bodhicitta, repeatedly contemplate, and finally dedicate the merit. This is the ninth instruction. Then, think about supreme joy: After taking refuge and generating Bodhicitta, like a poor person finding a treasure, observe the leisure and endowment that one has obtained, and think, is this a dream? Or is it real? Generate great joy. Now I should practice the sacred Dharma, repeatedly contemplate in this way, and finally dedicate the merit and integrate actions into yoga. This is the tenth instruction. The second topic is thinking about the impermanence of life, which has twelve aspects: Thinking about impermanence from the basis of the aggregates. Thinking about impermanence from the owner of the body. Thinking about impermanence from the formation, abiding, destruction, and emptiness of the outer world and inner beings. Thinking about impermanence from the manifestation of holy beings. Thinking about impermanence from the uncertainty of when death will come. Thinking about impermanence from the nature of conditioned phenomena. Thinking about impermanence from the violent causes of death. Thinking about impermanence from going alone. Thinking about impermanence from the changes of the times.

Impermanence. Meditate on impermanence by contemplating the lack of reliance. Meditate on impermanence by contemplating the uncertainty of conditioned appearances. Meditate on impermanence by contemplating intense desires. First, observe the assembly of limbs and details of your own and others' bodies. Now, rely on harmonious food and clothing, and even if you decorate and groom yourself, when the time of death comes, you will be naked and separated from clothing, sent to an empty place, eaten by foxes and vultures, limbs and details separated, and even the bones will become different fragments. If there is such a situation, then you should practice the supreme Dharma right now, practicing with the completeness of the preliminary, main, and concluding practices. Eleventh instruction step. Then, meditate on the lord of beings and practice impermanence. For example, the lord of the gods, Indra, Ishvara, Vishnu, the great sage Vasistha, and the ant-castle dweller, etc., who have beautiful forms, great majesty, can live for kalpas, have great qualities of wisdom, possess eyes and clairvoyance, and have immeasurable miraculous powers, they also have the time of death. Why wouldn't we like that die? Therefore, now you should practice the supreme Dharma, practicing with the three aspects of preparation, main practice, and subsequent practice. Twelfth instruction step. Then, meditate on the formation and destruction of the outer and inner worlds and practice impermanence. For example, the outer world represented by mountains and villages, and all sentient beings represented by men and women, will be destroyed by the seven fires and one water at the end of the kalpa and become empty. Why wouldn't we like that die? Therefore, practice with the three aspects of preparation, main practice, and subsequent practice. Thirteenth instruction step. Then, meditate on the supreme beings and practice impermanence. For example, the seven Buddhas and their retinues, and the Pratyekabuddhas and their retinues who appeared in between, all came and went one after another, and their teachings also experienced endless processes of prosperity and decline. How can we, like that, have permanence with our relatives? Therefore, from now on, you should practice the supreme Dharma, practicing with intense desire, with the completeness of the preliminary, main, and concluding practices. Fourteenth instruction step. Then, meditate on the uncertainty of the time of death and practice impermanence. There is no container to hold life, but it decreases and approaches day and night in an instant, like black and white mice biting the thin threads of a rope.
