Because there is no light of the teachings, there is no place to practice Dharma. If born among non-Buddhists, etc., due to wrong views, there is no place to practice Dharma. If born in a dark age, because the sound of the Three Jewels is not heard, there is no place to practice Dharma. If born as a mute, because the faculty of mind is not suitable as a vessel, there is no place to practice Dharma. Therefore, because I am not born in these eight conditions now, it is called leisure. Thinking of striving to practice Dharma. That is, through taking refuge and generating Bodhicitta. Repeatedly contemplate the eight unfavorable conditions and their opposite, the nature of obtaining leisure, thinking of practicing only Dharma. Afterward, dedicate the merit and apply this contemplation to all actions. This is the first key point of guidance. Then, contemplate the special endowments. If one does not obtain a human body, one cannot practice Dharma. Even if born as a human, if born in a region without Dharma, one cannot practice Dharma. Because one is born in the central region where Dharma flourishes, one is endowed oneself. If the senses are incomplete, one cannot practice Dharma. Because the sense faculties are complete, one is endowed oneself. If the edge of karma is reversed, and one always engages in non-virtue, one cannot practice Dharma. Because the edge of karma is not reversed, and one inclines towards virtue, one is endowed oneself. If one does not have faith in the teachings, one cannot practice Dharma. Because one has faith in the Buddha's teachings, one is endowed oneself, these five endowments are complete. If the Buddha had not appeared in the world, there would be no name for Dharma. Now that the Buddha has appeared in the world, others are endowed. Even if the Buddha appeared, if he did not teach the Dharma, it would be useless. Because he turned the wheel of Dharma three times, others are endowed. Even if the Dharma is taught, if the teachings do not endure, it is useless. Now that the teachings have not yet declined, others are endowed. Even if the teachings endure, if one does not enter the teachings, it is useless. Because one has entered the teachings, others are endowed. Even if one enters, if there is no conducive virtuous friend, one does not know what to accept and reject. Because there is a truly loving virtuous friend, especially one who completely embraces with compassion, others are endowed, these five endowments are complete. Now, when these ten endowments are perfectly complete within oneself, from the depths of one's heart, think of making this leisure and endowment meaningful.

So, the preliminary is taking refuge and generating bodhicitta, the main part is contemplating the reasons for obtaining leisure, and the conclusion is dedication and conduct as yoga. This is the second instruction. Then, contemplating the precipice of bad migrations: Now that we have obtained a support with leisure and have not accomplished a sacred Dharma, then under the power of karma, when we are born in the three bad migrations after death, we will not even hear the sound of Dharma. We will not meet virtuous spiritual friends. We will not even know the difference between virtue and sin. Everything we do will be sinful, and there will be no virtue. Therefore, we will always be in samsara, thinking that this samsara is very flawed! Thus, practice in this way with the three stages of preliminary, main part, and conclusion. This is the third instruction. Then, contemplating the example of how difficult it is to obtain: On the great ocean moved by the wind, there is a yoke with only one hole. It does not stay in one place, but is swayed by the waves of the water, and under the water there is a blind turtle that comes up to the surface once every hundred years. When these two meet, and the turtle's neck fits into the hole of the yoke, it is more difficult to obtain a human body from the bad migrations than that. Also, if you throw a handful of peas on a smooth wall, it is difficult for even one to stick. Thinking about how difficult it is to obtain a human body, practice with the three complete parts of preliminary, main part, and conclusion. This is the fourth instruction. Then, contemplating the distinctions of the order: In general, if you think about the order and number of sentient beings alone, the opportunity to obtain a human body is very small. Even among humans, there are those who do not have Dharma and always engage in sin. Thinking about these people, the opportunity to be interested in Dharma and hear Dharma is also very small. Among them, the opportunity for those who truly enter the door of Dharma from the heart and practice is even smaller. Thinking that we can meet a true lama, hear profound Dharma, and be able to learn the path to liberation, we must strive to obtain this precious human body! Thus, practice with the three complete parts of preliminary, main part, and conclusion. This is the fifth instruction. Then, contemplating wasting time meaninglessly: Just as going to a jewel island and returning empty-handed is like going to the ocean and getting nothing, now that we have gone to the island of the precious human body, we have not taken any treasures of the sacred Dharma, and we have not grasped the path of liberation. If we are distracted by the affairs of this life, then even if we obtain a precious human body, we will have returned empty-handed! Thus, practice with the three complete parts of preliminary, main part, and conclusion, and this is contemplating leisure. This is the sixth instruction. The end.
