All existence is a Bardo state. The phenomena that appear as primordial wisdom are the pure Dharmata Bardo, and all the laws encompassed by the six realms of samsara are the impure, deluded Bardo. They all arise from the primordially pure Dharmadhatu, and the mind with its seeds, before it is perfected in the Dharmadhatu, is the Bardo. Secondly, there are four types: the Bardo of birth or nature, the Bardo of dying, the Bardo of Dharmata, and the Bardo of existence. The first is from the moment of conception in the mother's womb until struck by the disease of death. The second is from the approach of death until the cessation of inner breath. The third is from the cessation of inner breath, when the light of luminosity appears, until the dissolution of spontaneous phenomena. The fourth is from the dissolution of spontaneous phenomena until the formation of the next existence. Thirdly, the four Bardos are explained by means of two examples and two meanings. First, the Bardo of the birthplace is like cutting off doubts, like a bird returning to its nest. The meaning is that by relying on a supreme Lama, one cuts off doubts about the key points of his teachings through hearing and thinking, and through practice, one cuts off doubts about the meaning of reality without reversing it in the experience of awareness, thereby perfecting the qualities of the four paths of practice and the ten bhumis, and finally attaining the fruit of no more learning. Secondly, the Bardo of dying is like showing a mirror to a beautiful woman, which is to clearly recall the key points of the practice that one has previously cultivated at this moment. How to recall it? In the dying luminosity and the corresponding stages of dissolution, one clearly remembers the key points of the key points in one's mind, while looking at the phenomena in front of one's eyes, and placing awareness in emptiness and clarity, so that, like the present luminosity escort and the Bardo luminosity welcome, the two are liberated as if the sun setting and the moon rising on the fifteenth day occur simultaneously. Furthermore, it is said in the "Union of Sun and Moon Sutra": When earth dissolves into earth, the body becomes heavy, unable to eat, and all strength to rise and walk is exhausted. When water dissolves into water, saliva and nasal mucus flow. Similarly, when fire dissolves into fire, the mouth and nose become dry, and the body's heat dissipates from the extremities. Similarly, when wind dissolves into wind, breathing becomes rapid, limbs shake, and the eyes also turn upwards. Whoever has these signs will surely go to the next life.

Therefore, as it is said, "At that time, the guru's instructions should be integrated into one's own being." At this time, one should keenly focus awareness on the meaning of the instructions, without distraction for even a moment, making it clear. When the winds dissolve into consciousness, the two lights, former and latter, meet like mother and child, and are liberated into the primordial expanse. Third, the Bardo of Dharmata Like a mother placing her child in her lap, one should have faith in self-appearance. Because the meaning of the instructions has been integrated into practice, no matter how the phenomena of Dharmata arise, there is no fear, and they all appear as the play of self-appearing wisdom. These should be recognized through the five ways of dissolution. First, when consciousness dissolves into space, the radiance of awareness dissolves into the eyes, and at the first moment, the appearance of primordial purity arises, like an autumn sky free of clouds, an expanse of light without beginning or end. Then, when space dissolves into light, the appearance changes without delay, and the appearance of the five lights and the appearance of the three, sound, light, and rays, appear, pervading the sky. Then, when light dissolves into union, the mandalas of the five families gradually appear in the five days of meditation. Then, when union dissolves into wisdom, the robes and bindus of the four joys will appear. Then, when wisdom dissolves into spontaneous accomplishment, the primordial pure Dharmakaya appears upwards, the five families of the Sambhogakaya appear directly, and the pure lands of the Nirmanakaya, such as taming beings, appear downwards. At that time, no matter how the phenomena of Dharmata arise, there is no fear, and one is certain that it is the play of self-appearing wisdom, like meeting a familiar person from the past. These five ways of dissolution do not necessarily proceed in order. Depending on the faculties of the individual, like the union of the sun and moon, the abandonment of the body and the appearance of light occur simultaneously in liberation. Intermediate ones are liberated in the appearance of union or wisdom. Inferior ones are liberated in the appearance of spontaneous accomplishment. And the way appearances arise is that wherever one is liberated, the limbs appear there, and below that, they dissolve into the expanse and do not appear. Wherever one is liberated, in the first moment, recognize it as self-appearance. Second, abide in the recognition. Third, be liberated in the abiding. Fourth, from the liberation, emanate manifestations to the pure lands of sentient beings. Fifth, abide in the self-luminous vase body. These moments are mostly moments of complete accomplishment, but not absolutely so.
