English
Action. First, there are two types: common and uncommon. The first is: generating the mind of enlightenment and making the generation stage clear and short. The second is: although there is no such term in the transmission from Vairotsana of Pagor (Tibetan: སྤ་གོར་བཻ་རོ་ཙ་ན།) to Spangmi Pamgon (Tibetan: སྤངས་མི་ཕམ་མགོན་།), other oral transmission instructions explain the six key points for practicing the three minds. The three minds are: the mind of gods and humans, the mind of bodhisattvas, and the mind of the Tathagatas. The six key points are: searching for the place of awareness, pressing the key points of the body, blocking the path of coming and going, visualizing the object of focus, establishing the unchanging foundation, and grasping the vastness of the sky. First, there are two types: ultimate truth and conventional truth. The first is: the nature of mind is profound, clear, and non-dual. The second is: the object of focus is the sky. Therefore, for beginners, one should focus on the second. There are also two types of objects of focus. First, it is the white "A" (Tibetan: ཨ།), and second, it is all the empty forms that appear, such as smoke. The first is: uniting with the mind of gods and humans. The second is: uniting with the mind of bodhisattvas. Pressing the key points of the body is: sitting in a somewhat cross-legged posture, with the palms of the hands placed on the ground at the sides of the hips, which is called "four palms pressing the ground." This is also called the "lion posture." Blocking the path of coming and going is: letting the breath flow naturally. Visualizing the object of focus is: straightening the arms, focusing the gaze intently, and keeping it short. Then, practicing the mind of gods and humans is: visualizing a small white "A" (Tibetan: ཨ།) in the sky half the height of the tip of the nose and of the same size, about half the size of a mustard seed, or according to one's own situation, focusing intently and keeping it clear and bright. If dullness and agitation are severe, relax and do not focus. Immediately after that, practice as before. After a clear appearance has occurred well, without visualizing the "A" (Tibetan: ཨ།), but keeping the mind resting in the sky directly in front of it, repeatedly looking without fabrication, this is the practice of the bodhisattva. After that, establishing the unchanging foundation is: contemplating that all phenomena are free from elaboration, like the sky. Be certain that the mind is not other than that, and that that is not other than the mind, as it is said in the Doha: Know all phenomena to be like the sky, Hold the nature of the sky as the mind. When the mind becomes non-mind.
