It is also possible that the mother is not entirely certain. Those with the best of the lowest faculties have it gradually, but it is difficult for those with the middle and lowest faculties to arise. Keep the body posture as before, and in front, at the brow center, plant a small wooden stick about a fathom away. Direct the mind, eyes, and breath towards it, and use it as a support to prevent the mind from wandering. If it is too tight, it will cause boredom; if it is too loose, meditation will be lost, so do short sessions with many repetitions. Then gradually increase the length of the sessions and decrease the number of repetitions. When the mind has settled, visualize a white ཨ་ (Tibetan: ཨ་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal meaning: A) at the tip of the wooden stick and meditate as before. Then gradually move white and yellow bindus, etc., and meditate on each object for a day or three, etc., without getting bored, as appropriate. Place a small stone at the base of the wooden stick and meditate gradually as before. Then, meditate on the three places of your own body, and the throat and heart center, etc., inside, with whatever letters or bindus, etc., as the object of focus. Gradually, the abiding will become stable. In short, you need to gradually get used to it, so both the teacher and student should be patient, teach slowly, and not get bored, which is very important. During this stage of calm abiding, do not become too tense, and do not deviate from the original posture. Be like a swordsman entering battle. This is to say that between the king's archer and swordsman, objects were piled up, and it was said that if the swordsman could hit the arrow within three days, these things would belong to the archer, and if not, they would belong to the swordsman. On the first day, the arrow was shot and hit the swordsman's sword, and the swordsman took the things away. The archer's wife asked if he had hit it. The archer said that the arrow was blocked by the sword and did not hit. The wife said, there must be a way, shoot again tomorrow. The next day, the wife bathed, dressed up, and walked back and forth in front of them many times, so the swordsman's eyes were attracted to her, and the arrow hit. Then the swordsman said: The arrow did not win, distraction won. From now on, all swordsmen, do not be distracted even for a moment. Distraction will cause you to lose your life like me. After saying that, he died. Just like this example, it is very important not to be distracted. Now, the higher seeing is taught. Higher seeing is the perfection of wisdom.

That which is called "wisdom" is it. Without this, one cannot walk the path, just as without eyes, these five perfections would have no object, and one could not realize enlightenment. Thus spoke Je Tsongkhapa. The venerable Milarepa, when Je Gampopa said that he could remain in meditative equipoise for seven days, and a Kadampa practitioner said that he was doing very good meditation, laughed loudly and said, "If that is meditation, then the gods of the four dhyanas are also meditating, but that is not enough. You and I have met, and if we had not met, you would have been reborn as a god." In another song, he sang: Those poor, wretched beggars, because they did not give alms in their previous lives, regard delicious food as an enemy. They want to practice mindless absorption. Thus, he refuted (their behavior). Vipashyana is also of three types: The so-called "vipashyana that thoroughly distinguishes dharmas" refers to the vipashyana that understands without error the ultimate meaning of all the sutras and tantras. The so-called "vipashyana that knows the nature of the mind as being naturally pure" is what we are now teaching and practicing. By becoming accustomed to this, the nature of the mind, which is naturally pure, will be manifested without error, and that is vipashyana. This vipashyana will arise at the time of attaining Buddhahood. Now, just as in the case of shamatha, even if thoughts remain in meditative equipoise, it is enough to simply recognize them. Even if various thoughts arise, simply remain in the state of recognizing their nature. In short, it is to remain in the state of simply recognizing the nature of whatever arises or appears. After practicing, there is nothing more to practice. In the "Lamp Illuminating the Direction of the Mind," it is also said: The yogi who is without this is blind. No matter how hard he strives, he will only obtain the result of samsara, because he has not reached the state of his own nature. Effort will only lead to exhaustion and suffering, and the essence of great bliss will be lost. Therefore, the method of definitely saving oneself from that is not the method of guarding through numbers and effort. Do not lose the original state, and simply recognize the original meaning. Do not prevent or abandon the clinging to erroneous appearances. The very things that are incompatible perfect the antidote. Therefore, the opposite of samadhi is thought. There is no need to abandon it; simply by leaving it in its own state, it will naturally become pure. Even if the lowest of the low does this, it will be from the mind.
