If, in any case, one identifies whatever thought arises, and observes how it exists and where it goes, it will dissolve on its own. By continuing this, later there is no need to specifically investigate, the thought itself will liberate itself, and this is called self-arisen wisdom. Cutting the root of movement, memory vanishes into the realm of reality. That is its meaning. In general, the so-called ordinary consciousness, if one does not modify the nature of whatever thought arises, that alone is sufficient if one is not distracted. Because those of inferior faculties cannot do this, they cultivate samatha-vipassana with effort. If looking at whatever thought arises does not pacify it, and it is too scattered, then one should adjust the body posture to that of a scattered person, and by looking at that state, it will naturally be pacified. Both scattering and abiding are mind, so they will naturally become one. By cultivating meditation and patience, one will become stable. That is like: Just as a crow flying from a ship, circles and circles, and then lands there again. This example shows that the crow on the ocean ship must be raised in order to scout for mountains and sea monsters. If it is near Jambudvipa, it will run away if its feet are not tied with a thin iron chain. Once it reaches the middle of the ocean, nothing is needed. Flying upwards does not exceed the sky, flying back and forth does not exceed space, flying downwards does not exceed the water, so no matter which direction it flies, it cannot find a place to go or land. Just as it lands back on the original ship, the thought itself, whether scattered or emptiness, not scattered is also emptiness, abiding or moving, does not exceed emptiness. It will land in the very nature of that person, so even those of inferior faculties will be transformed into those of superior faculties, because it is as profound as diligence, so it is good to learn this. Thus, the method of dividing the three faculties of superior, middling, and inferior into nine categories and practicing them is taught. As it is said in the Dzogchen oral transmission Heart Essence composed by Guru Rinpoche: The superior faculty can practice through view, the middling faculty can practice through meditation, and the inferior faculty can accomplish through conduct. That is his intention. That is his intention. If you need the source of these, it is the Kunjed Gyalpo Tantra, the eighteen sections of the Mind Class, and the two explanations of the large and small guidance manuals that I have written.

You must make your mind persevere in practice. Even if the Dharma is profound, if you do not practice meditation, then the profound instructions will only remain on the pages of books. Now, even if meditation enters your mindstream, if you do not meditate regularly, you will become bold in mind, bold in Dharma, and bold in practice, which will be of no benefit at the time of death, so you must be careful. Gyalwa Godtsangpa's son said that one must be able to stay in a mountain cave for outer retreat, be able to stay in a hut for inner retreat, be able to stay in bed for secret retreat, be able to stay on the view of non-duality, be able to stay on the meditation of non-distraction, and be able to stay on the conduct of non-attachment, and must have these six qualities. In general, there are two types of meditation: grasping outwards and grasping inwards. For a mind that is difficult to tame, you must grasp outwards, so that you are not separated from mindfulness. Then, all the thoughts that arise naturally grasp inwards, and all the thoughts that arise become meditation. That is to say, let ordinary consciousness run naturally in a state of non-attachment. It is said that even if a great meditator gives up meditation, meditation will not give up the great meditator. Before that, you must meditate continuously. If you do not meditate, even if you have a little experience now, it will disappear, so meditation should not be like a rainbow. Do not be like an iron hook, present when mindfulness is grasped, and absent when not grasped. For this, you must strictly guard against non-distraction. Do not be like separation, having mindfulness but unrelated to compassion. For this, at the beginning of each session, think that you are meditating for the benefit of all sentient beings. At the end of each session, dedicate the merit so that all sentient beings may attain Buddhahood. The Great Master Orgyen said, "Without compassion, the root of the Dharma rots." So compassion is very important. Do not be like selflessness, abandoning meditation after it has arisen without guarding it. Draw the mind inward and let it meditate. Do not be like alternating, sometimes meditating and sometimes not meditating. For this, rest and practice in an attitude of indifference to whether it happens or not. Do not be like a cycle, with daytime thoughts appearing at night as well. This is the time when meditation grasps inwards. Supreme Yoga refers to Dzogchen, which is the time of being free from effort. Mahamudra refers to non-meditation. There are also some people who are of inferior capacity and cannot become vessels for Trekchö and Tögal. For such people, give empowerment, practice the channels and winds, and then transmit the action seal. Good faculties
