Even if it arises a little, it is an obstacle and an enemy. Since realization cannot arise in the continuum, it is best if unfeigned devotion arises. If it doesn't, think from the depths of your heart, "My lama is the actual Buddha," and also say it in words. Discipline the body with precepts, join your palms, and pray with intense longing. In this way, unfeigned faith will arise spontaneously. That is to say, the greater the devotion, the greater the blessing; the middling the devotion, the middling the blessing; the lesser the devotion, the lesser the blessing. If there is no devotion at all, blessings will not arise, so devotion alone is important. When Padampa asked for a blessing, he replied, "Child, please give a relaxed devotion." So it is said. In this way, through the merits of what has been done in all circumstances, special realizations that cannot be expressed in words arise from within oneself. Lama Zhang Rinpoche said, "There are many things such as maintaining the place, increasing experience, increasing samadhi, etc., but it is rare for the blessing of the lama to arise from within through the power of devotion." And Orgyen Rinpoche said, "Always meditate on me as the ornament on the crown of your head. If it is fabricated, Padmasambhava is weak, lords and subjects." So, if one can practice oneself, the lama will certainly not deceive. It is like the light that came from the dog's tooth through the devotion of the old woman. Therefore, the preliminaries are very important, as the meaning of Dzogchen arising in the continuum depends on the preliminaries. Je Drigungpa said, "Other dharmas mainly do the profound main part, but here we mainly do the profound preliminaries." His intention is probably like that. If it does not arise from within one's own continuum, the dharmas taught by the lama are just intellectual views and meditations, and do not go beyond the general meaning. To arise from within one's own continuum is called searching for the view from meditation, which is a characteristic of Dzogchen. Jowo Rinpoche said that the view of Secret Mantra is bliss and emptiness, which is what this refers to. Below Mahamudra, one searches for meditation from the view. Therefore, it is very important to strive in the yoga of the lama. In general, nowadays in this age of the five degenerations, the lamas who teach dharma to ten or fewer people and benefit beings are emanations of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Orgyen Chenpo said this in the terma prophecy of Guru Rnonrtse. The practice of

Even someone without merit, if they can pray with devotion, will not wander in the three lower realms in lifetimes. As Sakya Pandita said, "Even if one does not fully comprehend the profoundness of the teachings, but contemplates the guru on the crown of their head with faith, and prays with tears in their eyes, they are a great practitioner who cuts off the door to the lower realms." The guru is just an ordinary person. It is wrong to think that blessings will not come from a person praying to a person. The tantras of the New Translation School also say, "From the guru, one obtains merit and all the bliss of the heavens. From a person inferior to the guru, supreme accomplishments do not arise." Therefore, even if the guru is an ordinary person, praying to them will quickly bring supreme accomplishments and enlightenment. The profound path is called Guru Yoga, which is well-known in the Unsurpassed Tantra. Now, it is mainly necessary to examine the types of individuals, dividing them into three
