When the winds dissolve, five-colored rays of light appear like a mirage. Second, when the conceptualization of desire dissolves, the appearance is like the rising of moonlight in the stainless sky. Third, when hatred dissolves, the appearance expands, like the rising of sunlight. Fourth, when ignorance dissolves, the appearance is obtained, like being enveloped by the darkness of the boundary. Fifth, when all the consciousnesses dissolve, there is a moment of light that is free from darkness. Because it is free from the darkness of grasping and being grasped, the luminous nature manifests in the eye of non-conceptual wisdom. Because it is free from dimness, it is like seeing the truth of hair strands. The eighth Je Rinpoche said that at this time there are also special instructions on the manifestation of the realization of the collection of consciousnesses and the manifestation of the arising of wisdom. Here, the method for initially grasping the luminosity that is to be put into practice is: From the Oral Instructions of Manjushri: "Death, fainting, and falling asleep, as well as yawning and the moment of intercourse, if one becomes accustomed to experiencing them, one will tame the minds of sentient beings." In general, it is said that there are five occasions when luminosity arises. Taking the luminosity of sleep as an example, in dhūti, one trains in recognizing the state of emptiness of all things at the end of the four emptinesses through the combination of the five essences. The nature of that luminosity is that the previous consciousness of sleep is completely purified, and in the interval before the arising of similar types of dreams and the previous sleep of wind practice, although it is obscured by ignorance for ordinary people, for yogis, the Dharmakaya, free from conceptualization, manifests as pure and luminous wisdom, inseparable from bliss and emptiness, like the wick of a butter lamp or the clear autumn sky. However, because the three appearances are impure, they are not the ultimate luminosity, not the actual seeing of the ultimate truth, so they should be understood as the luminosity of example. Therefore, the so-called luminosity of example and meaning is also the separation from the manifestation of the two obscurations that depend on the delusion of sleep by the power of gathering the wind and mind into the heart through the second dhyana, etc., which is the luminosity of example. The seeds of the two obscurations, both those to be abandoned by seeing and those to be abandoned by meditation, which depend on the delusion of sleep, are also abandoned by the powerful force of the luminosity of the path, so that the ground luminosity becomes a state free from adventitious stains, which is the luminosity of meaning. In this way, one trains through the luminosity of sleep.

If you cut off the seed of clinging to the five aggregates, and like Lavapa, remain in the state of luminosity, practicing the conduct of Bhusuku, you will achieve it in this illusory life. The method of stabilizing by grasping the essential instructions is: the method of gathering the wind-mind, or relying on dependent origination, igniting the fierce fire of inner heat, melting the bodhicitta, the experience of bliss and emptiness, the appearance of the three appearances with luminosity, and from the signs of the wind-mind, the illusory body arises. In order to manifest the luminosity of meaning, one must enter the extremely subtle wind-mind into luminosity through the three conducts and the two meditations. The three conducts will be explained below. The two meditations are as explained in the Five Stages and the Condensed Practice: like blowing on a mirror and the breath disappearing, gathering all at once is the round gathering; like ice melting in a river or trough, gathering gradually is the subsequent gathering. Through these two meditations, the illusory body is entered into luminosity, and then when it arises again from the reverse-order body, on the basis of the illusory body that is being learned, the illusory body that is not being learned can be manifested. As it says in the Manifestation of Clear Knowing: "This rainbow-like body will be obtained by meditating on it." If you practice it, the three doors of oneself and all sentient beings are inseparable, and together with the indestructible sound of the three vajras, by practicing the combination of entering and emerging from the two meditations, through the gathering of the bindu with its support, eliminating the mount of wind from the manifestation of the two obscurations, luminosity like the stainless autumn sky, free from the three disturbing conditions, a state like the dawn sky arises, and finally, one should become accustomed to it and firmly grasp it. The third is: the meaning-result reaches the end. This means that the primordial luminosity of the ground, how it exists in one's own continuum, the lama introduces it, and by taking the luminosity of the sign as the path, the meaning-result, the realization of the ultimate reality, reaches the end, which is the luminosity of the result. It is the same as the stage of union. As it says in the Later Treatise: "From the manifestation of luminosity, from that arises union." This means that the ultimate luminosity is explained as union. Here, Lord Marpa says: The exemplary luminosity is the wisdom that relies on the wisdom mother of another body, the luminosity of meaning.
