Or, not depending on what is grasped is also an intention. When others ask, because not all meanings are complete, there is still a basis for intention, so it is called intention. In order to benefit others, slightly relying on a certain aspect and showing it in a way that is in accordance with the other person's thoughts is called a subtle intention. The speaker also said that the listener also understands and enters, which becomes the basis for understanding other complete meanings, and because it stays to the extent that it does not become a lie. Thus it is said. Third, explaining the four reliances. The so-called reliance means to have trust and reliance on a certain object. As it is said in the Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra: Bhikṣus, you should abide in the four dharmas. What are the four? Abiding in the Dharma, not abiding in the person; abiding in the meaning, not abiding in the word; abiding in wisdom, not abiding in consciousness; abiding in the definitive meaning, not abiding in the provisional meaning. These four dharmas are to be realized, not the four types of people. And so on. Its meaning is greatly expanded in the Akṣayamati-nirdeśa Sūtra. Among them, the first of the four categories mentioned is: Rely on the meaning that manifests the wisdom of omniscience, do not rely on names, sounds, words, and letters. In general, showing the Dharma of the path to enlightenment that transcends the world, especially including the karma and fruit of the three wheels without conceptualization. In short, all the unique ways of manifesting the wisdom of omniscience are meanings, and one should rely on this. One should not rely on worldly symbols and terms, such as common fields of knowledge, etc., and even the eighty-four thousand gates of Dharma, merely following sounds, words, and letters is a small meaning. The second is: Rely on the Dharma of non-perverted view and conduct, do not rely on people of caste, lineage, fame, and wealth. One should rely on the non-perverted view and conduct that possesses the cause and effect of pure and defiled dharmas, especially those who can well understand the Madhyamaka of the Great Vehicle and show it to others, and who do not contradict the Buddhist scriptures.

Even if someone is great in terms of lineage, such as a king, or great in terms of family, such as having a good lineage, or famous due to being a reincarnation, a scholar, or an accomplished being, and possesses great wealth in terms of retinues, disciples, offerings, and factions, if their views and conduct generally contradict the Dharma, and especially if they are inconsistent with the principles of the Great Vehicle, one should not rely on someone who merely appears beautiful. The third is: Rely on the wisdom of non-elaboration and the essence of selflessness, and do not rely on the consciousness of conceptualizing names. One should rely on the wisdom that knows the true nature of all phenomena, which in ultimate truth is free from all extremes of elaboration such as arising and ceasing, realizes the two selflessnesses, and knows the true nature of the Sugata-garbha, the luminous essence, which transcends the objects of superimposition and denial; one should not rely on viewing this shore as real, conceptualizing self and aggregates as names, and being controlled by the mind that clings to the bliss of the five desires. The fourth is: Rely on the profound and vast definitive meaning, and do not rely on the temporary provisional meaning. For any Dharma, if it greatly transcends the realm of worldly speculators, Shravakas, and Pratyekabuddhas, and the profound and vast meaning is the inconceivable realm practiced by those of superior faculties, one should rely on this definitive meaning; one should not rely on generating aversion to samsara, generating a decisive renunciation of each vehicle, and teaching emptiness as merely existent, imputed, mind-only, or nothing at all, which are taught as temporary provisional meanings. Fourth, explaining the four reasons: Worldly dependent establishment, sense fields, consciousness, etc., function in their own realm, not doing other things, direct perception, inference, scriptural authority itself, all phenomena, self and common characteristics, established from the beginning, in sequence are dependence, action, establishment, and dharmata, known as reason. Among these, what is well-known in the world, established by valid cognition only on the conventional level, and is reasonable and appropriate upon analysis, is called reason. There are four reasons. The first is: Established by dependence, for example, it is reasonable that a sprout arises in dependence on a seed, and it is reasonable that actions and other dependent arisings arise in dependence on ignorance.
