Those who do not reside in villages or monasteries are called monastery dwellers; those who live in cemeteries, subsisting only on shrouds and food offered to corpses, are called cemetery dwellers; those who live under trees in monasteries are called tree dwellers; and those who live in monasteries in uncovered huts are called uncovered dwellers, totaling four types. As an antidote to attachment to dwellings, those who do not frequently repair their dwellings, keeping them as they are, are called those who keep things as they are; those who spend the night in a squatting posture are called squatters, totaling two types. Fifth, as stated in the sutra: 'Constantly holding various views, it is difficult to abandon the views of householders; living dependent on others, it is difficult for ascetics to make a living.' Therefore, renunciants are prone to five types of wrong livelihood, which must be diligently abandoned. Speaking softly to please others in order to gain profit and respect, praising others' possessions in order to obtain wealth, is called flattery and begging; speaking of one's own deserved merits is called measuring gains; giving a little in order to praise what one has already obtained or to obtain more is called seeking profit with profit; restraining the senses and pretending to be disciplined in order to gain profit and respect is called hypocrisy, totaling five types. Furthermore, activities such as farming and trading, as well as selling images of the Buddha and scriptures, are very serious wrong livelihoods. If one possesses these, the realization of the path that has not yet arisen will not arise, and that which has arisen will quickly decline. Therefore, one should abandon these and live by pure livelihood. Second, the actual explanation of the method of cultivation is divided into two: the cultivation sequence of the Lesser Vehicle Hearers and Solitary Realizers, and the cultivation sequence of the Great Vehicle Perfections. The former is further divided into two: the cultivation sequence of Hearers and Self-Buddhas. The former is further divided into two: introducing with a summary, and explaining its meaning in detail. The former is: the method of cultivation, the Hearer schools have seven categories, summarized by the five aspects of object, aspect, nature, result, and time. In order to explain the common and uncommon methods of cultivation in sequence, first are the Hearer schools, who cultivate the first four paths with seven categories, as stated in the Abhidharmakosha: 'The seven categories are in order, the first is action, the determinative factors and the conforming factors, and the distinction between cultivation and seeing.' Therefore, in the small accumulation path, one cultivates the four mindfulnesses, in the medium one cultivates the four right abandonments, in the large

To stabilize the miraculous power, practice the four legs of miraculous power. In the heat and peak positions of the path of joining, practice the five faculties. In the positions of forbearance and supreme Dharma, practice the five powers. In the path of seeing, practice the seven branches of enlightenment. In the path of meditation, practice the eight noble path branches. These need to be practiced. It should be understood that all of these should be summarized and understood from five aspects: the way of meditating on the object of focus, or the aspect, nature, result, and the boundary of where to meditate. The second part has four points: beginner, four right efforts, the path of seeing, and the order of practice in the path of meditation. The first point: For beginners, it is the antidote to general and specific desires. Meditate on skeletons, eight concepts, and observe the body as it goes. Feel the pain, like water and wood without marrow. Hold the mind with breath, and non-self is the ultimate truth. Formations and consciousness, all phenomena are like illusions. The object of focus for a Shravaka beginner is to meditate by focusing on the four: body, feeling, mind, and phenomena. That is, to counteract general desire, visualize one's own and others' bodies and appearances as skeletons, thereby eliminating attachment. The Treasury of Knowledge says: "Skeletons counteract all attachments." To counteract specific desires, practice eight concepts, such as the blue-green, festering, and worm-eaten thoughts. After abandoning desire, sometimes the body is placed in the mindfulness of observing the body as it goes, and practice like water and wood. Then, for feelings, namely pleasant, painful, and neutral feelings, contemplate them as suffering, and practice the concept of being without essence like water and wood. Then, focus the mind on the movement of breath in and out, so that thoughts are calmed. The continuum of mind is the conventional truth, and if analyzed, it is a momentary indivisible, which is the ultimate truth. In this state, practice the meaning of non-self. Then, for the phenomena included in formations and consciousness, practice the non-self of all internal and external natures, as well as impermanence, illusion, and so on. Why are these set as objects of focus? Because those with inverted knowledge cling to the body as the object of my dwelling, cling to feeling as the basis of my enjoyment, cling to the mind as my entity, and cling to phenomena as the basis of my afflictions and purification, in order to break these inverted clinging.
