While experiencing happiness and suffering, transforming into any form such as a monk or a Brahmin, a man or a woman, a Buddha or a Shravaka-pratyekabuddha, a Bodhisattva, or an ordinary person, and saying, "Alas! All conditioned things are impermanent, without essence, and not truly existent. This illusion is false, do not cling to it as true! Practice the Dharma!" and so on, teaching the Dharma. By this cause, abandoning non-virtue and practicing virtue, it appears as if one is repeatedly reborn, manifesting as being reborn into the happiness of the heavens and the lineage of Dharma practitioners, temporarily attaining happiness. However, as sleep gradually lightens, due to the cause of knowing that samsara is false, upon awakening, one still sees the appearance of dreams while lying in the same bed, and also remembers that the elder brother manifested and did those things. Although there is no good or bad in the elder brother and the things done, in that moment it appears as good or bad, just like two brothers laughing and talking about it. Buddhas and sentient beings equally possess the palace of essential wisdom, but it is temporarily obscured by sudden dullness, and it should be understood like the difference between being awake and not awake. Furthermore, there are two ways of knowing objects of knowledge: knowing as it is (yathābhūta-jñāna) and knowing as many as there are (yāvataka-jñāna). Knowing as it is refers to the wisdom of the Buddha that has cut off all elaborations such as arising and ceasing and all imputations of grasping at characteristics regarding the nature of all phenomena of samsara and nirvana. Without focusing on even a small amount of knowable objects that possess no nature, it is directly realized. This is called knowing the nature of reality as it is. The sutra says, "Not seeing anything is seeing the Dharma." Shantideva says, "When things and non-things, do not abide before the mind, at that time, there is no other aspect, and one attains peace without an object of focus." Knowing as many as there are refers to the wisdom of the Buddha, without moving from equipoise, directly knowing all knowable objects as false and like illusions. This is called knowing as many as there are. The sutra says, "The object of focus of the all-knowingness is the absence of things." Furthermore, this is not knowing by grasping at individual objects like sense consciousness, but rather knowing all phenomena with one wisdom. The Avatamsaka Sutra says, "The supreme wisdom of the Victorious Ones, in an instant can

It is the all-knowing of all meanings. (This is a concluding remark). The knowable of the three times is not known in a sequential order, but is known in a single instant. As it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras: Just as the sun rays emit a single ray, illuminating sentient beings. Similarly, for all knowable things, the Buddha's wisdom appears in a single instant. These are also seen without moving from the state of equipoise, there is no characteristic of subsequent attainment, because of abandoning distraction and habitual tendencies. In that very text it says: The capable one is definitely liberated from all obscurations. What is called "subsequent to equipoise" refers to the equipoise that does not move from the dharmakāya for one's own benefit, and from that state, the activity for the benefit of others arises, which is called subsequent attainment. As it is said in the Uttaratantra: That which is free from the two obscurations, the cause is the two wisdoms, namely non-conceptualization and its subsequent attainment, that is considered wisdom. Although it is spoken of only in terms of convention, it is always unwavering from equipoise. In the Ratnakuta Sutra it says: Even when the elephant is sitting, it is in equipoise. Even when the elephant is sleeping, it is in equipoise. Even when the elephant is dozing, it is in equipoise. Thus it is established. Second, refuting the debate, in two parts: If it is argued that the object of knowledge of suchness, the nature of phenomena, does not exist, then the wisdom that observes it cannot exist, because it says in the Diamond Cutter Sutra: The nature of phenomena is not knowable, because it cannot be known. The answer to this is: Although the nature of phenomena is not a knowable that is established by its own essence, so it is said, but it is inexpressible, inconceivable, and beyond extremes, it is merely the object of the wisdom of self-awareness of each individual, so it is known. As Rāhula praises the Mother: Inexpressible, inconceivable, and unutterable Prajñāpāramitā, unborn and unceasing, is the nature of space. The object of the wisdom of self-awareness of each individual, I prostrate to the Mother of the Buddhas of the three times. That is what is said. If it is argued that the object of knowledge of suchness, the impure self-characteristics, do not exist, then the wisdom that observes it cannot exist. The answer is: Although there is no truth, there is falsehood, so it is known. If it is argued that the limits of knowable things, the number of sentient beings, and the beginning and end of samsara cannot exist, then the wisdom that observes them cannot exist. The answer is: If knowable things exist, the Buddha has promised to know them, and if they do not exist, then they are not knowable, so they are not observed, like the horns of a rabbit.
