Regarding, Bharadvaja considers all knowable things to be definitely twenty-five in number. And the son who drowned in the water considers the reality of these twenty-five things to be emptiness as well. Therefore, they are called Samkhya. In the Compendium of the Essence of Wisdom, it says: The Samkhyas speak of qualities, the Vaisheshikas consider emptiness. That's how it is said. If classified, there are Samkhya, Vaisheshika, and the three qualities. Among these, the root of various treatises is the Samkhya. The view that all knowable things are contained in the two, self and principal, has five aspects: the self and the principal, the way to understand them, the faults of not understanding, and the benefits of understanding. First, the enjoyer is the self, which is permanent, real, and not the agent; the qualities cannot be made into objects; the Samkhyas examine it in this way. This means that the self is the purusha of sentient beings, the knower, the permanent, the solitary, separate from action and agent, the enjoyer because it enjoys objects, residing in the pocket of the principal of the nature-cause, therefore the hidden one unseen by anyone, possessing five qualities. There are two principals. The principal of the nature-cause is the three: happiness, suffering, and equanimity; or the three: desire, hatred, and ignorance; or the three qualities with other names: courage, dust, and darkness, which are equal in proportion. It is material, permanent, solitary, the cause that produces all transformations, not produced by anyone, the hidden one unseen even by the upright Vaisheshika, possessing five characteristics. The principal of transformation-result is the nature of the three qualities, and because it is not equal in proportion, it is the material that appears in many temporary and impermanent states. If divided, there are twenty-three, the first of which is the great one, the intellect, the inner agent, called the clear knowledge and the nature of awareness, like the two sides of a mirror. Externally, it holds the five objects such as form, and internally, it has the part or form of awareness of happiness, suffering, and equanimity. From that, the second is said to possess a share of the self, therefore arising the pride that considers the self as one, if classified, there are three prides: that arising from dust, that arising from elements, and that arising from transformations, but the one called pride is counted as one. Moreover, the first pride produces eleven faculties, namely the five wisdom faculties of ear, nose, tongue, body, and eye, and the mouth and hand.

And the penis, legs, crotch, and anus, these five are the faculties of action, and the mind as the faculty of both, totaling eleven. The second ego produces sound, smell, taste, touch, and color, these five "thatness" dharmas. From these, the five elements arise in order: space, earth, water, wind, and fire, these five. Among these, sound is the quality of space, and so on, arise. The third ego acts as a companion or friend to the previous two, but does not produce separate fruits. Regarding these meanings, the treatise of Ishvara Krishna says: From nature arises the great, from the great arises ego, from ego arises the collection of sixteen. These sixteen also from among them, from the faculties arise the five great elements. Thus, among the twenty-four, their nature is ultimate truth, and the twenty-three transformations are considered conventional truth. The best of the qualities of the three qualities, does not become the path of seeing, whatever becomes the path of seeing, is very hidden like an illusion. These are the twenty-four material Pradhana. The self and the twenty-five are contained within the two truths of knowable objects and are the meaning to be understood. There are two ways to understand them: to understand the way causes and effects are produced, and the way the Purusha enjoys the Pradhana. The first is that nature is only the cause, the great, ego, and the five "thatness" dharmas, these seven are the cause; the eleven faculties and the five elements, these sixteen are considered only the effect; the Purusha is considered neither cause nor effect. Pradhana is the agent but not the actor, the seven, such as the great, are both the actor and the agent, the sixteen are the action, the Purusha is neither the action nor the agent. Because the way of arising is from itself, it is considered that cause and effect are the same entity. The way of production is also only to make what was previously present manifest, it is not considered to be newly produced. The way of destruction is also a temporary pacification or manifestation until the end of the kalpa, it is not considered to be the impermanence of nature being permanently destroyed. The way the Purusha enjoys the Pradhana is that unclear happiness, etc., exists in the nature of the Pradhana, and what is clear is three parts: external sound, etc., happiness, etc., the happiness, etc., of the nature of wisdom, and the object that appears in it.
