Because the Shravakas are similar to it, they are included in it. The "Smaller Commentary" says: The Shravakas and the Pratyekabuddhas who are inclined towards them are the same, except that they have one more stage of realization. Therefore, here, the Shravakas and the Chittamatrins who are to be prevented and will be prevented are not written. After that, to ascertain the nature of the Mahayana, there are two points: how it is superior to the Hinayana, and the detailed distinctions. The first point is from the Sutra Ornament: "The object is great, and so are the two accomplishments, wisdom, diligence, and skillful means, the true accomplishment is great, and the Buddha's activity is great, because it possesses the seven great qualities, therefore it is definitely called the Mahayana." Among these, the object is the ultimate purpose, accomplishing one's own benefit is small, and accomplishing only the benefit of others is great. Accomplishment is when skillful means and wisdom are combined, which is great, and when they are separated, it is small. The Compendium says: Without skillful means, wisdom is separated and falls into the state of a Shravaka. This is said in the Ratnavali: From the Shravaka vehicle, the aspiration and the complete dedication of the Bodhisattva's conduct are not explained, how can it become the Mahayana? This only connects existence to the state of enlightenment with compassion. Thus, skillful means, compassion, and wisdom do not abide in either extreme, therefore they cause one to transcend both existence and peace. The Abhisamayalankara says: Wisdom does not abide in existence, and compassion does not abide in peace. Wisdom is only the realization of the selflessness of the person, or grasping half of the phenomena, realizing the absence of inherent existence is the Shravaka and Pratyekabuddha, which is small. Realizing the emptiness of the two selves is the Bodhisattva's Mahayana. Diligence is when interest wanes in a short time, therefore abandoning the benefit of others is small. Diligence with great interest for a long time is as the Sutra Ornament says: Even for the sake of one virtuous thought of another, one is not weary even after hundreds of thousands of eons. And the Bodhicharyavatara says: For countless beings, for a long time, to perfectly accomplish the supreme bliss of the Sugatas, whatever is thought in the mind, what need is there to mention constant giving? And as mentioned earlier: The Bodhisattva carries the heavy burden of beings on his head.

It is not beautiful to walk slowly, because both oneself and others are tightly bound by various fetters. Therefore, one should make a hundredfold effort. Thus it is said. The method is that the method of seeking peace alone is the Lesser Vehicle, and the opposite is the Greater Vehicle. In the Ornament for Clear Realization, it says: Those who seek peace, the Hearers, are led to near peace by the all-knowing; those who benefit beings, the knowers of the path, accomplish the benefit of the world. Thus it is said. In terms of accomplishment, tending towards one-sided peace is the Lesser Vehicle, and non-abiding Nirvana is the Greater Vehicle, as stated in the story of the wish-fulfilling gem: Tending towards one-sided peace, those who are truly pacified in the realm of reality, are superior among the Lesser, non-abiding Nirvana. Those who spontaneously accomplish the benefit of both self and others, accomplishing the purpose, are like the supreme wish-fulfilling jewel, possessing inexhaustible treasures of desires. Thus it is said. In terms of activity, the Hearers and Solitary Realizers are pacified in the realm of reality, and do not arise for the benefit of others. In that very text, it says: Alone in peace, the mind is absorbed, and there is no thought of benefiting others. Thus it is said. The Great Vehicle is to benefit beings from the time of enlightenment until samsara is empty, as stated in the previous text: Likewise, as long as this samsara exists, the work is desired to be непрерывным. Thus it is said. Furthermore, in the Discrimination of the Middle and Extremes, it says: Whoever has great wisdom and compassion is the Great Vehicle; whoever has small wisdom and compassion is the Lesser Vehicle. And in the Tantra of the Arrangement of Wisdom, it says: Compassion focuses on sentient beings, wisdom pervades the realm of phenomena, this is called the Great Vehicle, and others are the opposite of that. Thus it is said. Regarding the classification of the Great Vehicle, there are many differences in classification and summarization according to the views of individual teachers. Here, it is discussed from the perspective of the Mind-Only school of Yogic Practice and the Madhyamaka school. First, in the Mind-Only school, there are two establishments: general and specific. The first is that all knowable things are included in the three: the completely imputed, the dependent, and the thoroughly established. That is to say, the parts that are expressed and established by names are the completely imputed. If distinguished, there are those that do not exist in meaning but are expressed in name, such as the illusory appearance of two moons, and concepts such as "self," which belong to the completely imputed that is devoid of characteristics. The nominal completely imputed refers to the establishment in the form of names, words, and letters, and the detailed classification of anything.
