Thirdly, showing the essence of the heart: Such a realm, the essence of Bodhicitta, naturally exists in sentient beings. From the aspect of being pure in nature and perfect in qualities, it is called the nature of the Dharmakaya. It is shown by the three examples of the Buddha in the lotus, honey, and the essence of grain. As a sign of being possessed by oneself, from the aspect of being unchanging and unconditioned, it is called the nature of Suchness. It is shown by the single example of gold. From the aspect of appearing to generate the three bodies through the power of being free from defilements after practicing the path, it is called the nature of lineage. It is shown by the five examples of treasure, trees, precious statues, a universal monarch, and golden images. Furthermore, the Uttaratantra states: "The nature of this is Dharmakaya, Suchness and lineage as well. It is to be understood by three, one, and five examples." So it is said. Even now, in a time when there are defilements, the meaning of this realm cannot be well understood by any example. Therefore, the Dharmakaya itself is taken as an example: Because it transcends the world, in the world, no example for this can be found. The Tathagata

Its nature is described from the aspect of the arising of qualities, like the examples of treasure and trees that have already been given. Such a realm, its ultimate nature, I think must exist in aggregation, which is just a fondness of mental speculation, and is not seen directly. From the first bhumi, one sees a part, and in the state of Buddhahood, one sees directly what the nature is. It is like the sun rising, those without eyes cannot see it, but those with eyes can see it. The ultimate truth of the self-arisen ones, is to be realized through faith alone. Even if the sun's disc blazes with light, without eyes, it cannot be seen. Therefore, the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas, the three lower noble ones, do not see it as it is. Noble Bodhisattvas are like a small child seeing the sun in the sky, but not seeing the sun that pervades the entire realm. As it is said in the scripture: From the house where he was born, a small child sees the shape of the sun, so do the noble ones. Regarding the Buddha seeing everything, in the commentary on the Uttaratantra it says: Like the sun in the sky above the clouds, you are one-sidedly wise here. Even the noble ones with pure wisdom eyes do not fully see everything. Bhagavan, you, with your pure Dharmakaya and boundless wisdom, see all those knowable things that pervade the endless expanse of space. So, the ultimate truth is the Dharmadhatu, and seeing the nature of this Dharmadhatu is called seeing the ultimate truth, but emptiness where there is nothing, is not the ultimate truth. This is to teach non-self and so on as an antidote to the clinging to self of children, ordinary people, and beginners. In reality, it should be understood that the Dharmadhatu is luminous, unconditioned, and spontaneously present. As it says in the same text: In short, these four types of people are considered to lack the eye to see the Tathagatagarbha. What are the four? They are ordinary people, Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas who have newly entered the Mahayana. As it is said: Bhagavan, this Tathagatagarbha is not the domain of those who fall into the view of the aggregates, those who delight in perverted views, and those whose minds are distracted by emptiness. That's it.

Regarding the justification for explaining the Buddha-nature, there are two points: first, to ask questions by dispelling doubts, and second, to answer those questions. The first is: Like clouds, like dreams, like illusions, all knowable things are empty in every way. Having said that, why do you say that all sentient beings have the Buddha-nature in the hearts of the Buddhas? This is because, in the intermediate teachings, all dharmas are like impermanent clouds, like false dreams, and like illusions that arise from the aggregation of causes and conditions and have no inherent existence. But here, because it exists immutably from the beginning, it is permanent; because it exists by its own nature, it is solitary; because it is not produced by causes and conditions, it is shown to be unconditioned. These contradict each other, so how is it? To dispel the doubts of those of lesser intelligence, the answer is: This essence is also empty because of emptiness and conditioned things, but it is not the emptiness that abandons its own qualities. Because it has the characteristic of being differentiated, the realm is empty due to temporary adventitious stains; because it has the characteristic of being undifferentiated, it is not empty due to the supreme dharma. This has already been said before. The second is to answer these questions: The true limit, the realm of naturally pure essence, is like the unconditioned sky. The karma, afflictions, and the happiness and suffering of samsara that depend on it all appear like clouds. Among them, afflictions are painful due to improper attention, which is like clouds. Karma is without inherent existence but appears, like the form of a dream. The aggregates produced by afflictions and karma appear like illusions and emanations. Therefore, it counteracts the attachment to the appearance of self, clinging to one extreme. After that, five faults such as clinging to emptiness as nihilism arise. To eliminate these faults, the Tathagatagarbha of ultimate truth is taught. The true limit is devoid of all conditioned forms, afflictions, karma, and the meaning of ripening are spoken of like clouds, etc. Afflictions are like clouds in action, karma is like enjoyment in a dream, the ripening of afflictions and karma, the aggregates are like illusions and emanations. Having established it in this way before, again in this supreme continuum, to abandon the five faults, the existence of the realm is taught.
