That was not spoken to some. What has not been spoken will not become spoken. Even if it were to be spoken in some circumstance, the unsurpassable vehicle would be proclaimed in a place where there are no names of Arhats, Pratyekabuddhas, Sutras, or lower vehicles. Therefore, keep it secret from those of inferior intelligence. That person who possesses these qualities is considered an emanation who performs actions. Thus it is said. Even if the Great Perfection could arise, this unsurpassable Heart Drop does not arise from the broad path below the most secret sections of the Mind Series and Instruction Series, so it should be recognized as an extremely rare category of Dharma. Therefore, it should be cherished like a jewel, as it is said in the Uttaratantra: Because it is rare in occurrence, because it is stainless, because it is powerful, and because it becomes an ornament of the world, it is indeed a precious gem. Thus it is said. Fifth, the method of examining an emanation body is: Ordinary beings teach the Dharma with benefit and happiness, and the actions of the Buddha's emanation appear to be very similar, so the definite method of examining it is: In the Rangshar it says: The method of examining an emanation should be understood as follows: Even when walking, the eyes do not wander elsewhere, and at the nape of the neck there is a single tuft of hair that curls to the right, and in the heart there is the form of a vajra, and the place of birth is in a royal family or a high caste. Whatever the conduct, it is practiced in accordance with it. Whatever is said, one does not cling to it. One does not accomplish one's own desires. Activity and grasping are naturally absent. One dispels the desires of any sentient being. One should know that one who possesses these qualities is an emanation body. Thus it is said. Even if these signs are present, it only shows that it is an emanation, and it is not certain whether others are emanations or not, so one should strive to generate pure bodhicitta and tame one's own mindstream. Second, the categories of the five bodies are explained separately, divided into five: essence, definition, appearance, division, and meaning. First, the essence is: blazing with the splendor of complete marks and signs, as it is said in the Rangshar: The essence is endowed with marks and signs, the nature holds the marks of each. Thus it is said. Second, the definition is: Because it appears as the bodies of five different families, it is called the body of the five families, as it is said in the same text: Appearance is great wisdom, the family of

Its defining term is also like that. Thus it is said. The third is appearance: appearing as the body and wisdom of the father and mother. From Rangshar: The appearance of the five bodies of wisdom appears as the aspect of the two, father and mother. The father's part holds the body of skillful means. The mother's part holds the body of wisdom. It appears as the two, skillful means and wisdom. Moreover, skillful means is without cessation. Wisdom is without change. Thus it is said. The fourth, division, has two parts. The division into five families: From that very text: Moreover, the families appear as five. Namely, the Tathagata family, the Vajra family, the Ratna family, the Padma family, and the Karma family. Thus it is said, it is asserted as the five families. The division into five bodies: Again, from that very text: The meaning of the word 'body' has five aspects. Moreover, the way of explaining it is like this: Vairochana and Vajrasattva, likewise Ratnasambhava, Amitabha, and Amoghasiddhi. Thus it is said. The fifth, applying the meaning, also has two parts. First, applying the meaning of the five families: From Rangshar: In terms of the meaning of awareness, the Tathagata is taught as the Tathagata family. In terms of the meaning of awareness, there is no birth and death, so it is taught as the Vajra family. In terms of the meaning of awareness, various things arise, so it is taught as the Ratna family. In terms of the meaning of awareness, it is faultless and pure, so it is taught as the Padma family. In terms of the nature of awareness, activities are accomplished, so it is taught as the Karma family. Thus it is said. Second, applying the meaning of the bodies: Again, from that very text: The appearance of awareness is without cessation, so it is Vairochana. Awareness realizes the two benefits, self and other, so it is Vajrasattva. Knowing with awareness instantaneously, so it is Ratnasambhava. Seeing one's own appearance, so it is Amitabha. Awareness realizes unbornness, so it is Amoghasiddhi. Thus it is said. The second meaning, the detailed division of radiance and light, has two parts: showing the general state of being, and specifically explaining the way of appearing. The first is: The five main lights, which are spontaneously present from the beginning in a great, spontaneously accomplished state. The way sentient beings have it now is: inside something like a precious heart-essence erected, in the center of the clear light-channels, the wisdom of awareness dwells in the radiance of the five lights. Moreover, from Rangshar: That appearance of great wisdom dwells in the center of the citta. Thus it is said. Second, specifically explaining the way of appearing has three parts: the way it appears to those who have not trained in the path, the way it appears to those who have trained, and the way it appears in the bardo.
