That is also difficult to obstruct, because it obscures one's own appearances, and ignorance exists together. Also, as it says in the *Muktika Mala*: Because the mind arises from accumulation, it is also mixed with impurities, so the alaya-vijnana, etc., become counted among the impurities. Therefore, beings are called sentient beings because they possess the mind that obscures awareness. This mind accumulates karma, causing delusion to revolve from one delusion to another. When that mind is liberated from awareness and completely purified, it is called a Buddha, because awareness is free from impurities. Therefore, the true dharma of impurity to be abandoned is only the mind. As it says in that very text: If the mind is separated, one becomes a Buddha, and the impurities of all sentient beings are exhausted. Beings go by means of the mind; without it, they cannot go elsewhere. Therefore, beings are said to be like a wheel turning. So it is said. That mind is also the mind that grasps the object, which apprehends this and that object appearance, holding onto signs, names, and general characteristics; and the mind that examines its distinctions and analyzes them in detail, the apprehending subject-possessing mind. These two are combined, so the mind that apprehends the object is called mind. These are also needed in the common scriptures. As it says: When the mind ceases, that body manifests realization. Also, as it says in the *Prasannapada*: The activity of the mind and mental factors also ceases. Also, as it says in the *Ratnakuta Sutra*: Also separated from mind, intellect, and consciousness, and not abandoning the state of samadhi, this is the inconceivable secret of the Tathagata's mind. Wisdom is like the sky, pacifying elaboration, the basis and source of the immeasurable dharmas of the Buddhas, together with the assembly of the all-encompassing ocean of wisdom, always abiding in the house of the Dharmakaya, burning all the thickets of afflictions and habitual tendencies, existing like fire. As it says in the *Muktika Mala*: Burning all conceptual thoughts, wisdom itself consumes like fire, being equal to the nature of space, being empty, clear, and possessing awareness. Here, some who do not understand say: Without mind, one would become like a stone or darkness. This is because they have heard too little. Even without mind, there is wisdom, so awareness is not interrupted. Because the mind of ignorance and delusion ceases, wisdom arises.

Just as the sun rises and the night disappears, so too does the day dawn. Some people believe that because ignorance pervades awareness, awareness also ceases when the mind ceases. This is a great mistake. Although awareness can pervade ignorance, ignorance cannot pervade awareness, just like the wisdom of the Buddha. Because the mind is pervaded by ignorance, it can be considered a pervader of the mind, but awareness is not pervaded by ignorance. Therefore, they believe that ignorance will retreat or cease from the nature of awareness. Therefore, when the mind ceases, the fundamental ignorance and all its parts cease, but awareness does not cease, because the basis of cessation is awareness. If there is no awareness, on what should cessation be contemplated? Here, when ignorance and its mental aspects cease, awareness expands into wisdom, enjoying the two knowledges, as it is said in the Garland of Pearls: "The mind is free from all movement, Not like an inert stone without awareness, Knowing and clear, Light shines forth." Therefore, mind and wisdom are distinct. In the common scriptures, mind and mind-nature, which is naturally pure, are also distinguished. Among them, mind is the deluded thought of samsara, and mind-nature is the dharma of nirvana, free from elaboration. In the Holy Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita Sutra, it is also said: "There is no mind in the mind, the nature of the mind is luminosity." "There is no mind in the mind" means to gather the basis, and from the perspective of the abiding state of the essence, the mind is characterized by elaboration, deluded thought, defiled dharmas, such as distraction and concentration, and the activities of the higher realms, all of which are without inherent existence. The nature of mind, the abiding state of mind, and mind-nature are just different names, and its essence abides in the luminous wisdom. Those fools who do not understand the distinction between mind and mind-nature, but boast of understanding the scriptures, are merely filled with arrogance. Therefore, after clearly distinguishing between mind and wisdom, in the common, object-oriented vehicle, although the mind is taken as the basis, path, and fruit, all of this does not reach the ultimate meaning. Therefore, in this vehicle, wisdom is established as the basis, path, and fruit of the Buddha, thereby quickly liberating from samsara. While others, hoping to attain enlightenment at the root of samsara, find it difficult to achieve even after a long time, because
