Fourteenth Chapter: Establishing the Aspects of Knowing Dependence. Fourteenth Chapter: Establishing the Aspects of Knowing Dependence. Thus, having explained the dependent body and its other aggregates of dharmas, now, in order to ascertain the nature of knowing dependence on it, there are three points: the difference between the ālaya and the dharmakāya, the difference between mind and wisdom, and the explanation of other differentiated dharmas. The first point has two parts: a brief presentation and a detailed explanation. The first point is: in relation to the basis of sentient beings and the basis of the Buddhas, from the aspect of the nature of awareness being primordially pure and stainless, and being defiled by ignorance with stains, along with the collection of conceptual thoughts, becoming the basis of all illusory appearances and illusory grasping, It should be known that there are two aspects: the ālaya and the dharmakāya. As it is said in the *Thal 'Gyur*: "The key points of the ālaya and the dharmakāya." Among these, the ālaya is distinguished by ignorance, being the first support of all minds and mental factors, the intermediate dwelling, the final home, becoming the container of karmic imprints, like a pond. The dharmakāya, on the other hand, is distinguished by the reversal of ignorance, transcending the objects of mind and mental factors, being completely purified from all actions and karmic imprints. The ālaya is like the middle lining of brocade, becoming the basis for impure appearances, appearing as a container for various objects, and as the subject, appearing as the essence of the six classes of beings and the three realms, and their bodies, as well as the holder of many parts of pleasure and pain, and mental delusions. The dharmakāya, on the other hand, is the absence of all of that, not abiding together with the mind and so on. As it is said in the *Rang Shar*: "The ālaya grasps conceptual thoughts, deceived by various illusory consciousnesses. The ālaya is an object of ignorance, the term 'ālaya' refers to that." And again: "The basis of sentient beings and the basis of the Buddhas, are definitely distinguished by one difference." Also, as it is said in the *Mani Threngwa*: "The ālaya itself is for accumulation, the dharmakāya is the exhaustion of outflows. Empty and clear, clear and pervasive. Not defiled by thought, memory is clear. The nature of being free from elaboration, pervasive and empty like the sky. Self-purified, free from all representations. The ālaya with causes and conditions, is like a pond because it accumulates karmic imprints. The dharmakāya is free from karmic imprints. From the aggregation of mind and mental factors, the embodied ālaya appears as many. The dharmakāya, because it is free from mind and so on,

It is a formless appearance. So it is said. Moreover, the ālaya is the place of the mind, and the dharmakāya is the place of wisdom. As it is said in the Kuntuzangpo Longdrukpa Tantra: O great Bodhisattva, the place of the mind is the ālaya. Why is that? Because the ālaya gathers all objects of thought and is known as the mind. The place of wisdom is the dharmakāya. Why is that? Because the dharmakāya does not possess all thoughts and does not have the wisdom that holds objects as distinct. So it is said. Some with pride of accomplishment consider the ālaya to be the dharmakāya. In the common treatises, the ālaya is considered the basis of all that is pure and impure, and the dharmakāya, among the pure, is considered the stainless Suchness. In some mantras, the ālaya is considered to be transformed, the pure part being the wisdom of the dharmadhātu and the Svābhāvikakāya. The ālaya is the basis of all, and also the basis of transcendence of suffering. As it is said. The ālaya, when transformed, is the wisdom of the dharmadhātu and the Svābhāvikakāya, and thus, among the different, it is said to be contradictory in substance. There is harm in this. If the ālaya were the dharmakāya, then the dharmakāya would be tainted, and just as the ālaya creates the illusion of vessel and contents, so too would the dharmakāya create illusion. If accepted, then it would follow that one would be deluded from Buddhahood back into sentient beings, and so on, which is harmed by reasoning. It is also harmed by the supreme scripture. As it is said in the Kuntuzangpo Thukkyi Melong: Considering the ālaya to be the dharmakāya is straying from me. So it is said. In Rigpa Rangshar: Some consider the ālaya to be the dharmakāya. To answer that, to show, the nature of the ālaya is like this. Then he said the answer: Because all is complete, it is the ālaya. Then refuted with a question: There should be a change in the Buddha. Because the ālaya manifests in various ways. Because from that all is complete. Sentient beings are of the nature of the Buddha. Why is all complete? Or it becomes alternating. Why does it manifest in various ways? Sometimes it becomes a Buddha. Sometimes it becomes a sentient being. Why is there alternation? Then
