LRAZ005 0001.The Supreme Vehicle, the Precious Treasury, called (Upper Volume).g2.0f

English

Without cause, subtly abiding in latency. These abide in the samadhi called the Jewel Storehouse Peak. Such is the supreme tenet established from the common vehicle. If, in conjunction with the inclination of sentient beings in existence, sentient beings arise, then even now, from the unpredicated movement of the wisdom of the sphere, there will arise the sudden delusion of sentient beings. As it says in the Guhyagarbha: "Emaho, from the Sugata-garbha, emanated by one's own conceptual karma." And as it says in the Compendium: "When various conditions gather, the wheel of karma will fully arise." Although this resembles a newly born sentient being, it is not newly born, because ignorance co-emerges with wisdom, and that aspect of the sphere is obscured. It is merely that it is made manifest by sudden conditions, and it is not that it was initially pure and later deluded, and "sphere" refers to the expression of the four elements. Then, thirty thousand yojanas below, in the sky called Mind-Opening Variously Playing, there are countless wheels radiating, and the sound of one touching another naturally arises. There, those beings above, those samadhis of peaceful abiding going in one direction, some falling slightly below, merely knowing each other, those beings multiplying greatly, therefore, consciousness is infinite, form is the object, the wheel enters, merely knowing and grasping as self, merely knowing the limit is infinite, there is no object of collection. From those arising and the forms of beings multiplying infinitely, this is called the sphere of infinite consciousness. Those also have shorter lifespans than those above, their bodies are smaller and their light is not clear, this is inferior samadhi, and this is because the power of merit is weakened. Two thousand yojanas below that, in the sky called Great Cloud Variously Playing, samadhi arises as self-appearance, fragments of clouds of various colors densely pervade, and from the spreading of consciousness, countless sentient beings multiply. Then it is named the sphere of infinite space. Thus, among the four formless realms, the peak of existence can last for eighty thousand great kalpas, the realm of nothingness can last for sixty thousand great kalpas, the realm of consciousness can last for forty thousand great kalpas, and the realm of infinite space can last for twenty thousand great kalpas.

If one thinks that appearance contradicts formlessness, it is not contradictory. Like the gods of meditation appearing as bodies of light, they abide only in pure consciousness. Unlike the gods and humans of the desire realm, who are composed of flesh and blood, their consciousness does not directly cling to external objects. Like wandering pretas, they do not have a body of mind, so awareness is clear within. Like hell beings experiencing suffering, they do not have a body of suffering, so they abide in the bliss of samadhi. This consciousness, which is the pinnacle of the fruits corresponding to merit, in the four branches of samadhi, the self-nature manifested body or form, is invisible to those below, but only the self and those above can see it slightly. As stated in the Mother Tantra: "At that time, the gods who enjoy in the desire, form, and formless realms also hold flowers in their hands and make offerings to the Tathagata." The commentary also says: "All the classes of gods come near." This also proves it. Next is the way the form realm expands: From the infinite space downwards, after passing twenty million yojanas, there is a space called "Adorned with Precious Lapis Lazuli," where the five lights appear transparently without distinction between inside and outside, and the consciousness of the upper realm splits into fragments, becoming one. Possessing mouths, eyes, and ears of light, everything is transparent and unobstructed, expanding infinitely. Relying on the power of wind, they can walk, fly, float, and so on. This is the lower realm in relation to the formless realm of the upper realm, but for the lower desire and form realms, it is above everything and not the lower realm, so it is called "Akanistha," meaning not the lower realm, or located at the top of all things with form, so it is called "Akanistha." This is different from the four kinds of birth places, samadhi, consciousness, emanation bodies, and things that cannot be seen by ordinary eye consciousness. This is because pure consciousness forms an external body of light, like the image of a painting or the shape of a rainbow. The body is sixty thousand yojanas tall, and the lifespan can also reach sixty thousand great kalpas. As for the spatial intervals of the lower realms, it can be understood by measuring the distance from Jambudvipa to the lower realms as previously stated. When measuring the distance from Akanistha to the lower realms, there is a space called "Adorned with Precious Lapis Lazuli," where the latent consciousness of the beings of the upper realm occasionally falls.

From... countless beings propagate, called "Extremely Seeing," because seeing each other brings extra joy. Their body size is eight thousand yojanas, and their lifespan is eight thousand intermediate kalpas. Below that, in the sky called "Jewel Utmost Beauty," countless beings propagated from above appear, called "Abundant Appearance," because they measure the qualities that surpass those below. The bodies of these beings are four thousand yojanas, and their lifespan is four thousand intermediate kalpas. Below that, in the sky called "Jewel Purple Ore," some consciousnesses from above closely propagate, and the beings greatly increase, called "Without Suffering," because the appearance of joy and happiness arises, and those beings have no suffering. Their bodies are two thousand yojanas, and their lifespan is two intermediate kalpas. Below that, in the sky called "Jewel Crystal Pavilion," beings called "Not Great" appear, because they do not have great desire for appearances. Their lifespan is one intermediate kalpa, and their body size is one thousand yojanas. Thus, these five abodes, because they are without some defilement of afflictions, are called the five Pure Abode Gods, which are the other five abodes of the noble ones. Above the other three abodes of ordinary beings, in the sky called "Jewel Utmost Beauty Widely Spread," beings propagated from some Not Great Gods who have fallen are called "Great Fruit," because they are accomplished from the great virtuous fruit of complete merit. Their body size is five hundred yojanas, and their lifespan is five hundred intermediate kalpas. Below that, there is the sky called "Jewel Kali-colored Beautiful Adornment." Beings propagated from some Great Fruit Gods who have ceased like drops are called "Merit Born," because they arise from previously accumulating great merit. Their bodies are two hundred and fifty yojanas, and their lifespan is the same number of intermediate kalpas. Below that, there is the sky called "Jewel Cloud Extremely Dense," from the cessation of the Merit Born beings, countless beings called "Cloudless Light" propagate. They possess the qualities of slowness, gentleness, and warmth, resembling the appearance of a cloudless sun, and therefore they are called that. Their bodies are one hundred and twenty-five yojanas, and their lifespan is
