For example, a congenitally blind person went to skilled doctors to have his eyes cured. The doctor took a golden knife, cut away the cataract from his eyes, and then held up one finger, but the blind person said he could not see it. When the doctor held up two or three fingers, he could barely see a little. Son of good family, if this Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra had not been spoken, then countless Bodhisattvas, even if they had perfected the pāramitās and were abiding on the ten bhūmis, would not see the Buddha-nature, just like that blind person. When the Tathāgata spoke it, they were able to see a little. The Bodhisattvas, the great beings, having seen in this way, would say, 'It is truly wonderful! World-Honored One, we have been wandering in samsara for countless kalpas, held captive by selflessness.' Son of good family, if even a Bodhisattva abiding on the tenth bhūmi does not clearly see the Buddha-nature, what need is there to mention whether śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas see it? This was extensively spoken in the sutra. The third is: From the Tantra of the Great Perfection of the Lion's Total Prowess: 'In the very bodies of all sentient beings, there abides the appearance of pure wisdom. It is not able to appear extensively, like the womb and the shell of an egg. Although obscured and not manifest, it is like the arising from the perfection of its own prowess. As soon as this pure body is abandoned, self-appearance will meet with its object. The very self-awareness that has always abided, its essence, free from thought, will be seen. In the appearance of pure wisdom, the truth of the Buddha will be seen.' The second general meaning is that there are six aspects to explaining the specific aspects of pervasive dharmas: Namely, the very essence of primordial wisdom has the five kāyas, the five wisdoms, the five lights, the five families of dharmas, the five winds of wisdom, and the five dharmas of essence, nature, and compassion. As a sign that they have always abided, in impure appearances, there are the five afflictions, the five skandhas, the five elements, the five sense faculties, the five objects of desire, and the five dharmas of the nature of the three doors. As it says in the String of Pearls: 'Thus, in that very essence, are the five kāyas, the five wisdoms, and the five lights, the five colors and aspects, the five dharmas, the five winds of wisdom, the five essences and the five natures, the five compassions.'

Pervades all. Thus it is said. First, the wisdom of rigpa abides as the five kayas: The wisdom of rigpa, from its own realm, the nature of reality, manifests as the spontaneously accomplished primordial sound, thus arising as the kaya of Vairochana. The wisdom of rigpa, like a vajra, is immovable and unchangeable, thus arising as the kaya of Akshobhya. The wisdom of rigpa inherently possesses the quality of luminosity, thus appearing to increase during practice, hence arising as the kaya of Ratnasambhava. The wisdom of rigpa has infinite self-radiance, thus arising as the kaya of Amitabha. The wisdom of rigpa itself, from the beginning, has practiced the meaning of enlightenment, thus ensuring the spontaneous accomplishment of both benefits, arising as the kaya of Amoghasiddhi. Thus, rigpa inherently possesses the five kayas, hence the five skandhas now arise. As it is said in "Self-Arisen": The skandha of liberation is the Buddha-kaya. And as it is said in the "Guhyagarbha Tantra": The limbs of the vajra-skandha are known as the five complete Buddhas. And as it is said in the "Nectar Manifestation Tantra": The form-skandha is Vairochana, the feeling-skandha is Ratnasambhava, the perception-skandha is Amitabha, the formation-skandha is Amoghasiddhi, and the consciousness-skandha is Akshobhya. Thus it is said. Second, the five wisdoms also inherently exist: Rigpa itself clearly reflects the general characteristics of phenomena and its own image, hence it is the mirror-like wisdom. Rigpa itself is without good or bad, large or small, etc., and is equal like space and jewels, hence it is the wisdom of equality. Rigpa clearly distinguishes phenomena and the differences of the senses without confusion, hence it is the discriminating wisdom. Rigpa itself is unobstructed and self-liberated, hence it is the accomplishing wisdom. Rigpa itself is free from all extremes of elaboration, hence it is the wisdom of the dharmadhatu. Thus, the five wisdoms inherently exist in rigpa, hence the five poisons now arise. As it is said in "Perfected Skill": The five poisons are the five wisdoms. And as it is said in "Heap of Jewels": The five poisons that bind to the self-grasping, are the self-arisen rigpa from the beginning, the wisdom that needs no concealment. And as it is said in the "Great Blissful Play of Mamaki Tantra": Ignorance is the wisdom of the dharmadhatu, hatred is the great mirror-like wisdom, pride is the wisdom of equality, desire is the discriminating wisdom, and jealousy is the accomplishing wisdom. Thus it is said. Third, the five lights are: Rigpa
