Practice is acting beyond attachment to the appearance of the earth and mind. As stated in the Ornament of Jewels: "With the continuous yoga of practice, if one does not separate from the essence of the lineage at all four times, it is the continuous yoga of practice." Also, as stated in the Scripture Without Letters: "If one does not separate from that great practice, it is said to be the very essence of the three aspects." Thus, transforming the result into yoga is to practice by realizing the spontaneous, inherent nature without any hope or doubt when looking at the lineage. As stated in that very scripture: "The Buddha's result is the expanse of great non-doing; without separating from it, the nature of reality cannot be cultivated." Thus, cutting off those deviations means that although there are no deviations or non-deviations in the essence of awareness, deviations and non-deviations arise from the difference between knowing and not knowing when practicing it. Therefore, it shows the cutting off of deviations. Among the three of view, meditation, and action, in view, if one views emptiness as utterly nothing, it becomes nihilism. If one meditates blankly on utter nothingness, one deviates into the formless realm. If one becomes attached to the delight and excitement of the appearance of light, it becomes eternalism. If one meditates on clarity as the extinction of lineage, one deviates into the four concentrations of the form realm. If one grasps the phenomena of purification and liberation as entities in emptiness and form, it becomes grasping at subject and object. If one meditates in that state, one deviates into desire. As stated in the Ornament of Jewels: "In the continuous yoga of view, there are three kinds of deviations. If one views emptiness, one deviates into the four formless abodes. If one views the essence of phenomena, one deviates into the seventeen abodes of the form realm. If one deviates into solid matter, in the appearance of the lineage, if one intensely clings to permanence and is bound by great attachment, one deviates into the realms of the six destinies." Thus, since there is no clinging or attachment to the appearance of light, deviations are cut off implicitly. Regarding the deviations of meditation, if one falls into mindless laxity, one deviates into one-pointed shamatha, so it is important to recognize the clear, naked awareness of rigpa. If one separates and meditates on distinct, clear aspects, one deviates into biased clinging, so one should be without the proximity of clinging. If one meditates on the emptiness of blocking arising sensations, one deviates into limitless emptiness, so do not block arising. It is important to directly recognize the differences in whatever arises without following the past. Again, as stated in that very scripture: "In the continuous yoga of meditation, there are three kinds of deviations. If one lets go...

If one meditates on selflessness, one will stray into a dark vision. If one meditates on the syllables of samadhi, one will stray into the realm of samsara due to attachment. If one meditates on non-conceptual emptiness, one will stray into limitless attachment. Thus it is said. In terms of conduct, if one does not apply the fundamental liberation of non-attachment and instead applies it to whatever appears, it is like a madman and one will stray into being an Asura, therefore it is crucial to directly liberate appearances. If one clings to words and acts, one will stray into viewing the aggregates as a self, therefore it is crucial not to be bound by views, meditation, or tenets. Although there is no clinging to names and meanings like a child towards appearances, if it becomes an object of attachment, one will stray into the unmentioned ignorance, therefore it is crucial to recognize one's own nature through the realization that appearance and awareness are cut off in their own place. In the 'Ornament of Jewels' it says: In the continuous yoga of conduct, there are three places of straying. Thus, towards all appearances, if one acts like a madman, one will stray into being an Asura. If one applies meaningless rigid words, one will stray into viewing the aggregates as a self. Towards all the appearances of the six consciousnesses, if one acts like a child, one will stray into the place of the unmentioned. Thus it is said. In general, those with inferior intelligence and those attached to skill have places of straying, but for those skilled ones who do not bind the box of hope and doubt, who perpetuate results, there are no places of straying. Also, in that same text it says: Although the causes of straying are inconceivable, there is no great place of straying in that. For the lineage of Lugu, there is no place of straying. For the lineage of the path, it appears as straying. But in reality, there is not a single place of straying. Saying that it is established as cause and effect is also said to cut off the place of straying. Thus it is said. These are also very important points, therefore one should understand them. The third meaning is, how the four appearances arise after practicing in that way, there are four: In the 'Thalgyur' it says: From that, four appearances will arise, namely, with the appearance of the direct perception of the nature of reality, it transcends the words of mental grasping. With the experiential appearance of increasing above, it causes the illusory appearances to subside. With the appearance of awareness reaching its limit, it transcends the path appearance of realizing the three kayas. With the appearance of the exhaustion of the nature of reality, it cuts off the continuity of the three realms of samsara. Thus it is said. First, the appearance of the direct perception of the nature of reality, dharma is the nature, ultimate truth, the essence of awareness, nature is the suchness that is without change and fabrication. Direct is self-radiance, that which can be seen by the senses. Sum is the place of the door, object, and wind.
