Examine the distinctions between the common and the supreme. Thus, when the signs and measure are reached, one begins the pure yogic conduct of speech. Because speech is the nature of conceptualization, there are various kinds of sounds. Because what is said cannot be reversed, one should distinguish the good and bad differences in the languages of gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, kumbhandas, and those who pervade. In short, the language of the six realms expresses the mind's memories and thoughts through speech. Here, too, there are two necessities: to differentiate the supreme and the common, which are boundless. Thus, having reached the measure, the yogi engages in mental conduct. It shows the nature of the coming and going of memories and thoughts of the past, future, and present. For all kinds of things, such as liking and disliking, good and bad thoughts, and existence and non-existence, one examines outwardly and thinks inwardly. Like the memory that is thought, it is certain that the continuation of arising from the outside will be cut off. The necessity of this is distinguished by the previous one. Thus, having completed the practice, one should always focus on the key points of direct perception. That completion is not entering the three realms. It should be practiced with utmost secrecy. So it is said. Third, the method of guiding the mind involves the preliminaries of body, speech, and mind, of which there are two: the actual preliminaries and settling into the natural state. Of these, the actual preliminaries are: From the *Thal Gyur Tantra*: "By going before the body, the causes of individual actions are stopped. By doing the vajra posture, the body is trained and benefits the mind." Speech is abiding in "Hūṃ" (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽), which is to increase and train. By seeking a virtuous friend and placing them on the path, thus training speech benefits the mind. The mind is where it first arises, where it abides in the middle, and where it goes in the end. Thus, if one examines and analyzes these three, training the mind knows the nature of the mind. So it is said. Settling into the natural state is, as it says in that same tantra: "One endowed with yoga settles into the natural state." So it is said. The necessity of these preliminaries is: commonly, pacifying the obstacles of body, speech, and mind, and purifying sins and obscurations. The supreme necessity is liberation into the expanse of the body, speech, and mind of the Buddha. For this, there are two necessities: to examine the distinctions between the common and the supreme. So it is said. The necessity of the three of settling into the natural state is: by settling into the natural state of the body, the aggregates, elements, and bodhicitta increase. By settling into the natural state of speech, one abides in the meaning that cannot be expressed, and the conceptualization of words is exhausted. By settling into the natural state of mind, there is the necessity of liberating from the object of thought's attachment. By these,

The preliminaries have already been taught. Second, the main practice, how to teach the essential instructions shown in the lineage of the flawless wisdom yogi, there are four major categories of Dharma: First, how to restrain body, speech, and mind; second, relying on the three essential points, to manifest the nature of reality directly in oneself; third, how the four appearances arise from such practice; and finally, to help, support, or ultimately confirm these, to teach the oral instructions. The first point, from the Tantra of Self-Arising Teaching: Having done the preliminaries in this way, in order to observe the meaning of manifestation, one should thoroughly restrain body, speech, and mind. The body should be like a lion, like a sage, like an elephant. If one does not move from these postures, one's fortune is equal to that of three thousand Buddhas. Speech should be like that of a mute, not making any communication with anyone. The person who does this will cut off the distractions of the mind. Whoever restrains body and speech in this way will become accustomed to the appearance of the Dharmadhatu through this. And, from the Decisive: The essential point of manifestation is body, speech, and mind; the essential points of each must be followed. The body should not depart from the three kayas. Speech should be learned, abide, and repeated, making it stable. The mind is accomplished by entrusting it to the Dharmadhatu. Therefore, the essential point of the body is not to move from the three postures; the essential point of speech is not to move from the unspeakable; the essential point of the mind is not to waver from looking at the center of the outer expanse of empty space, and not to move from the state of being without distraction and without conceptualization. These three essential points should be diligently practiced. Second, relying on the three essential points to manifest the nature of reality directly in oneself, there are three points: manifesting the nature of reality in oneself with the three essential points, recognizing one's own nature with manifestation, and making the essential points firm with practice. The first point, from the Only Son of the Buddha: Having restrained all the essential points of body and so forth in this way, through wisdom itself and manifestation, one knows from the guru's instructions. And, from the Decisive: The three essential points and the oral instructions are inseparable. That is, relying on the essential points of the door, the object, and the winds and awareness. The door is to look at the three kayas with the eyes. The object is to be free from obscurations. When the winds and awareness are slow, wisdom is accomplished. Therefore, the essential point of the door, the essential point of the object, the essential point of the winds and awareness.
