There is no cause for liberation or other conditions for liberation. It itself is liberated within itself, and because there is no basis for existence, there is no foundation. The nature of mind without a foundation has no place to turn away from other than itself. Because there is no place of liberation, it has never arisen. There is no place from which it came, because there is no other dharma apart from itself, so it is called self-liberation. For example, like a snake's knot that is released without being untied by anyone. Third, relying on the key point of direct liberation seeing-falling away, it is taught without relying entirely on the tantras and agamas: liberation in that very moment by merely seeing directly is like the liberation through the meeting of mother and child. Do not alter the appearance with the mind. By not examining the appearance, but leaving it as it is, it is liberated into self-purification. Direct liberation seeing-falling away has four aspects: the understanding of direct liberation, the justification for abiding in direct liberation, the manner of liberation, and the example. The understanding of direct liberation is: liberation in that very moment in what is seen by merely seeing directly, that is, liberation in the very first instant by merely seeing, hearing, or knowing oneself. This is called the calculation of the manifestation of dharmata. There are three justifications for abiding in direct liberation: reasoning, scripture, and logic. Reasoning is justified because there is no object in any clinging or falling away. Appearance is liberated by merely appearing upon appearance, and knowing is liberated by merely moving upon movement. Through the key point of emptiness itself, by directly seeing form, merely thinking it is form, one is liberated in that very moment by relying on it. The same is true for sound and so on. How do we know that it has been liberated? Because by seeing it as form, the elaboration that is not form is cut off. By abiding in it directly, it is liberated in that very moment, because the knowing that goes towards something else does not arise. The justification through scripture is: In the Guhyagarbha Tantra it says: "Through the view of great direct liberation, both Buddhas and sentient beings are liberated." Logic is justified through the logic of impartiality and self-purification. For example, appearance is direct liberation, because by abiding in direct seeing, it is liberated in the place of abiding, and falls away in the place of liberation. The manner of liberation is: If one trains on a part, the part is liberated in the place of direct seeing, not having gone anywhere, nor having come from anywhere, nor going anywhere, nor changing from abiding anywhere. If one trains on the whole, all appearances become direct liberation. The example is an impartial person.

Like going to a wise Lhakhang, there is no distinction in what is seen. Fourth, relying on the key of liberation from extremes, and being free from dependence, so that there is no clinging to any dependence, is the key: being liberated from one extreme, one does not abide in two; being liberated from two, one does not abide in one either. Likewise, the cessation of the four extremes of both and neither is called liberation. Liberation from extremes, being free from dependence, has three aspects: the understanding of liberation from extremes, the justification for establishing liberation from extremes, and the manner of liberation. The understanding of liberation from extremes is: without clinging to any extreme of existence, non-existence, appearance, or emptiness, it transcends the judgment of right and wrong in meaning. The justification for establishing liberation from extremes has three aspects: reason, scripture, and logic. Reason is justified by the reason of the nature of non-dependence, because not depending on anything is being free from extremes, therefore not abiding in any extreme. Therefore, it is called the view of non-extreme, non-objective Madhyamaka. Justification by scripture is: from the scripture of great power and perfect qualities, it is said, "Liberation is called freedom from extremes." Logic is justified by the logic of knowing one and liberating all, because knowing one to be free from extremes, one is liberated from all appearances and designations, because there is no clinging to any dependence. The manner of liberation is: not abiding in the extreme of existence, therefore liberated from the extreme of non-existence; not abiding in the extreme of non-existence, therefore liberated from the extreme of existence; not abiding in both existence and non-existence, therefore liberated from both; not being both, therefore liberated from not being both. Fifth, relying on the key of one liberation being unparalleled, thereby completely showing the means and wisdom is: one is the Great Perfection, the single bindu, free from elaboration, and being liberated within it, therefore all the extremes of numerous numbers are exhausted. The key of one liberation being unparalleled has four aspects: the understanding of one liberation, the justification for establishing one liberation, the manner of one liberation, and the example. The understanding of one liberation is: liberation is not even justified, because there is nothing other than liberating one into one. Therefore, rigpa is originally beyond the words of liberation and non-liberation. The justification for establishing one liberation has three aspects: reason, scripture, and logic. Justification by reason is that all liberations are not different, because one.
