Because it is immediate liberation, appearances are purified. Because it is liberation from extremes, the four extremes cease. Because it is single liberation, the many are empty. Thus it is said. Secondly, there are five aspects of extensively explaining the nature of original liberation, self-liberation, immediate liberation, liberation from extremes, and single liberation. First, regarding original liberation, it is shown that there is no need to rely on contemplation and effort, based on the key point of not needing repetition. "Original" means pervasive and general, signifying absence of action and effort, meaning it does not come from anywhere, does not go anywhere, and does not abide anywhere. "Liberation" is not like untying, so there is no need to strive through contemplation. "Liberation" means abiding in its own state, without contrivance. Being so, body, speech, and mind relax into their own state, and the mind itself naturally abides, which is called liberation. Moreover, it remains so permanently, thus surpassing the common vehicle. Therefore, the example of liberation is like the fruit of the Āli Kāli which is already ripe from the beginning, so there is no need for it to ripen further. Or, like gold which is already yellow from the beginning, so there is no need for it to become yellow. There are three aspects to original liberation: the understanding of original liberation, the reason for its establishment, and the manner of liberation. The understanding of original liberation is that it is not sudden, but liberated from the beginning, so there is no need to liberate again. This key point arises from the fact that awareness itself has never been deluded. There are three reasons for establishing original liberation: the reason of logic, the reason of scripture, and the reason of proof. The reason of logic is that the key point of awareness itself being liberated from the beginning is that awareness has no basis, so it is irreversible; it has no root, so there is no place of origin; it has no characteristics, so it cannot be determined by words; it has no birth, so there is no need for liberation. Moreover, as a sign of being originally liberated, no matter what meditation is done, no characteristics are seen. This is also proven by the logic of no cause and no effect, because awareness has no cause, so there is no result, so there cannot be karma and maturation. The reason of scripture is, in "Meaningful Diligence," it says: "The mind itself, liberated from the beginning, how could there be external conditions for liberation?" Thus it is said. The reason of proof is established by the proof of entrusting, vanishing, and self-establishment, the place of entrustment is liberated from the beginning, so it is liberated in its own place, because it is liberated from the beginning. Moreover, the key point is that the mind has no place of origin, no place of abiding, and no place of going.

Therefore, it is known to be primordially liberated. The way of liberation is: because the mind is emptiness, there is no such thing as liberation or non-liberation, it is merely a designation of words. As a sign of primordial liberation, there is no need to be liberated again from now on, because the nature of mind is primordially Buddha, and there is nothing to be liberated in primordial liberation, thus it is known. Secondly, relying on the key point that self-liberation has no antidote, it is shown that it does not completely depend on the oral instructions of the lama. It is like this: although all phenomena of appearance and sound arise, they arise from themselves, and liberation is also self-liberation. For example, like the sky and clouds, or the ocean and waves. Being like that, it is not like the faulty practice, view, and conduct that rely on other places, therefore the so-called ultimate liberation refers to the exhaustion of phenomena. There are three aspects of self-liberation: the understanding of self-liberation, the validity of self-liberation, and the way of self-liberation. The understanding of self-liberation is the meaning of having no antidote, that is, appearance itself is self-liberated from appearance, and there is no such thing as Dharma nature other than appearance. Similarly, emptiness and so on are liberated by themselves, and there is no separate liberation. For example, just as a drunk person is subdued by alcohol, poison is subdued by poison, and iron is cut by iron, etc., similarly, affliction itself is liberated by itself, therefore it is called self-liberation. There are three validities for establishing self-liberation: validity by reason, validity by scripture, and validity by logic. Validity by reason is established by the reason of Dharma nature, because all liberation is self-liberation, and it is established not like being liberated by others. If it is liberated by others, then it is unreasonable for one thing to appear as different forms, and also, consciousness itself is substantially contradictory to others. Just as the first nature of things is determined, self-liberation is reasonable. Validity by scripture, as it is said in the Mind Series: "Liberation is self-born, not from others." Validity by logic is that great self-liberation is established and reasonable by the logic of being without dispute. Like this, appearance is self-liberated, because it does not depend on other antidotes. The way of liberation is: there is nothing other than oneself liberating oneself, and other scriptures also say that those with desire are liberated by making desire the path, and appearance is liberated from appearance itself, other than appearance.
