It is said: The essence of self-arising wisdom is the absence of mental conceptualization. The appearance of past and future realms is directly cut off. Thus it is said. When consciousness is aroused by a strong condition, like the five poisons, or when it arises freshly, there is nothing but awareness at that moment. Therefore, when holding it nakedly, wisdom becomes especially clear. And upon consciousness, whatever arises, whether joy or displeasure, neutrality, good thoughts or bad thoughts, nothing but awareness appears. Therefore, when recognized, the Dharmakaya appears nakedly. As it is said in the Jewel Heap Sutra: When the Rupakaya appears as an object, it is the play of my body. A person without hesitation touches my body with this. When strong attachment to ignorance, hatred, and desire arises, my awareness is without conceptualization. This itself is self-liberation by oneself. This itself is seen in my eyes. When the mind's thoughts appear outwardly, for the sake of my obscurations being naturally purified, if there is no cutting off following this, my sounds are all heard by this. When the gatherings of thoughts of thinking come together, my non-conceptual samadhi is excellent. When there is no thought of attachment to this, my smells are all sensed by this. When coarse forms enter the mind, it is because my experience arises. When one and two are exhausted in this, this tastes my flavors. Thus, all that appears and all that is heard are said to be the play of Kuntuzangpo, myself. Because the arising of play is unceasing, my qualities naturally arise. The function of qualities appearing is just this, it will not be exhausted, there is no exhaustion. Therefore, it is the field of the three kayas' mudra. Thus it is said. The state of awareness at the time of practicing such an essence is the intention of the great self-abiding Dharmakaya. As it is said in the Sixth Space: On the mind-essence without arising sensation, the unthoughtful higher seeing appearance is, the intention of exhausting going and coming, Kuntuzangpo, I have taught. On the mind-essence without grasping, the unceasing pure appearance is, the samadhi of great play, Kuntuzangpo, I have taught. On the mind-essence without holding, the self-arisen great appearance is, the unceasing non-conceptual intention, Kuntuzangpo, I have taught. On the mind-essence without pain, the appearance of being free from self-grasping is, the intention of great self-abiding, Kuntuzangpo, I have taught. On the mind-essence without permanence or annihilation, the appearance of being free from good and bad is,

The so-called view beyond acceptance and rejection is what I, Samantabhadra, have taught. For the mind-essence beyond acceptance and rejection, the unbiased self-liberated appearance is the vast and boundless view, which I, Samantabhadra, have taught. Thus it is said. In this, when awareness abides without distraction, the non-conceptual state of abiding is not what is intended to be meditated upon. At this time, the naked awareness of the clear and lucid awareness, without distraction, is to be maintained plainly. Also, when awareness arises in objects, looking at whatever arises is not what is to be meditated upon. At that time, the clear and naked aspect of awareness is to be maintained without distraction. If this key point is not understood, one will mistakenly think that looking at the two, abiding and arising, is the essence of meditation. Merely the mind abiding is like a deity of samadhi; merely arising is like an ordinary thought, so even if one meditates on that, the hope of attaining Buddhahood is slim. Here, at any time, the naked aspect of awareness, like a transparent crystal ball, is to be maintained as long as it has not merged into the expanse. Once merged, one abides in that state without separation. The meaning of Trekchö is said to be that awareness is stripped naked and maintained effortlessly, so this key point alone is of great importance and should be recognized. As it is said in the absence of letters: If there is no grasping of mind, no view, no meditation, the Dharmakaya is an object. If the three skills of view are mastered, appearance is the expanse of the Dharmakaya. If there is no activity or distraction, the nature of reality is the place of bliss. If one sits alone in stillness, the three skills arise from themselves. If one knows the present moment as a friend, it is the state of one sitting. If one dwells in it continuously, what is there to do? All great appearances abide in perfect view. The essence of the secret mantra is that itself. Thus it is said. The third meaning, binding the Great Perfection of Complete Liberation into a commitment, has two aspects: generally showing the state of Complete Liberation, and specifically explaining its categories. The first has essence and divisions. The essence is to recognize the meaning of naked awareness, and when abiding, to spread out plainly in the place of abiding; when arising, to clearly and distinctly place it in the place of arising, so that it is self-extinguished without trace, completely transparent. As the Uttaratantra says: The view does not move from one, appearance is clear on appearance, like a face and a mirror, liberation is liberated in that very moment. The movement of consciousness is empty and extinguished, seeing is not different from awareness, that itself is its own state.
