must also be experienced, as stated in the Tantra of the Supreme Secret Vows: "Those who revile the Vajra Master, even if they confess, the residue of their karma will be tormented in the hell realms. Therefore, strive to protect it." Thus, generally, discipline is said to be the basis of qualities, so it must be unbroken and pure, as stated in the Suhrllekha: "Discipline is like the earth, the basis of arising and not arising, the root of qualities, thus it is well said." In particular, the basis of the Secret Mantra vehicle is solely pure vows, so it is crucial to protect this purity, as stated in the Vajrasattva Heart Mirror: "The vows of the Vajra Vehicle are like the earth, the supreme basis for the arising of all." So, from which Secret King Tantras do these classifications of empowerment and vows come? It is said in Dzogchen Rangjung, Heart Mirror, Tsal Dzog, and Rangshar that there are things to be repeated and protected. In Norbu Trakö, it is said to be half and half. It is said in Thalgyur, Mutik Trengwa, and Rinchen Pungpa that there are none, but in Thalgyur it is said: "All four are shown, but they are very concise, mainly taught through symbolic representation." The third general topic is the extensive explanation of the stages of the liberating instructions, which has three parts: establishing the connection of meaning, determining the method of practice, and establishing the actual meaning of the instructions. First, as it is said in Rigpa Rangdrol: "After the empowerment mandala is complete, the instructions should be extensively imparted." And as it is said in the Vajrasattva Heart Mirror: "Thus, after all the empowerments are complete, impart the instructions explained above." That is to say, without having received empowerment, one should not teach the instructions of Secret Mantra, because there will be the fault of revealing secrets to an unsuitable vessel, and before liberation, one must first ripen, and without ripening, one cannot be liberated, just as an unripe fruit, even if pierced with a needle, will not benefit but will instead cause harm. In general, whatever Secret Mantra one practices, one must first receive empowerment, and especially in this system of Great Perfection, it is not allowed without empowerment, so this complete empowerment is very important. Teaching these instructions without empowerment will cause the secret door to be breached,

Moreover, because some people in the past were punished, in order to avoid repeating the same mistakes in future generations, one should cherish the empowerment beforehand. The second is divided into two: practicing as a beggar and practicing as a wild animal. The first is to live in a place where one is not recognized, disguised as an ordinary person, relying on begging for a living, and practicing as if knowing nothing. At this time, not showing off one's own merits to others is a sign of having no desires; not inquiring about others' Dharma, gurus, and miraculous signs of accomplishment, and not admiring them even when seeing them, is a sign of having confidence in one's own instructions. Practicing as a wild animal means going to a cemetery, hillside, or empty valley, and abandoning three activities to practice. That is, abandoning all kinds of external affairs and staying leisurely, so the pulse will be slow. With a slow pulse, the wind and mind naturally slow down, and thoughts naturally cease. The activity of speech is to cut off speech, staying without speaking, so that the unspeakable meaning naturally arises in the continuum. The activity of the mind is not to follow the scattering of various thoughts, but to naturally abide in non-thought. As it is also said in the Prasangika: Those with faith, whose minds are separated from samsara, should make offerings to the guru and give generously. Having cut off all connections with samsara, abandon friends and live alone. And so on. Third, determining the actual key points is divided into two aspects: practicing with a mind that has an object and practicing with a mind that has self-appearing wisdom. The first, as it is said in the Ratnakuta Sutra: These, with two stages of mind, practice the essence of meaning. For those with minds that have an object, explain all the dharmas of meditation and what is to be meditated upon. For those with minds that have self-appearing wisdom, uniquely explain the methods of view. And so on. The second is divided into two: generally explaining the meaning of determining categories and separately explaining the determined individual points. First, as it is said in the Ratnakuta Sutra: Such a gradual distinction should be practiced diligently. In the manner of the four masters, also grasp the essence of the four meanings. With the four objects and wisdom, cut off the stream of arising that appears in this way. With the four methods of abiding and key instructions.
