It is not established as a dharma. Since it is spontaneously accomplished by its own nature, it transcends the extremes of annihilation and non-existence. The dharma nature of clear light emptiness is completely pure. The original Buddha of self-nature. The unchanging intention of the Dharmakaya. It is not established in either samsara or nirvana, and the great primordial wisdom of self-arising emptiness abides like the sky from the very beginning. As it is said in the Garland of Pearls: "The essence is pure from the beginning, the self-nature is spontaneously accomplished. It transcends the earth, directions, and categories. There is no being, non-being, or seeing. It is not the object of sound and measure. There is no one, two, or counting. It is accomplished by falling into great emptiness." And as it is said in the Six Spaces: "The dharma nature free from elaboration is pure from the beginning. The basis of the essence of self-face is completely pure. It is free from words and letters. It cannot be determined by expression. It is free from all imputation and terminology. There is no grasping or apprehending. There is no Buddha and no sentient beings. There is no dharma and no concept of dharma. There is nothing that is not, nothing at all. On the essence of such non-existence, if we temporarily determine it with words, on the essence of self-nature, it is spontaneously accomplished in its own nature." The second is debate and response. The debate is: If the essence is pure from the beginning, then since defilements are exhausted, it is unreasonable for sentient beings to be deluded in samsara. If the self-nature is spontaneously accomplished, then since the fruit is already spontaneously accomplished, sentient beings should be liberated effortlessly from the beginning. The response is: Since they are liberated from the beginning, defilements cannot be purified again by their nature, and there is no self-nature of delusion and liberation. Like delusion and liberation in a dream, it is merely a play of awareness. It has never been established at the time of appearance, so there is no fault in being pure from the beginning. Since it is spontaneously accomplished, it is complete from the beginning in the pure nature of the Dharmadhatu body and wisdom, but like waking up from sleep, it has already manifested in the original place from the part that is suddenly free from defilements, so there is no fault, as it is taught. It is said in that very text: "Since the essence is pure from the beginning, it is unreasonable for sentient beings to be in samsara. Since the defilements of ignorance are exhausted, the great Bodhisattva spoke. Since the self-nature is spontaneously accomplished, it also appears unhindered. The mind itself also asks again, the self-nature is spontaneously accomplished in its own nature, these sentient beings are self-liberated. Since it is spontaneously accomplished from the beginning. It is said that these sentient beings are."
