Like myself, the eye consciousness does not cling to the appearance of form, and the ear, nose, tongue, and body consciousnesses do not cling to their respective objects, just like images appearing in a mirror. The mind itself discriminates various objects and phenomena, and from the manifested objects of the senses, the mind enters as sense consciousness and grasping, or when discriminating objects without general meanings, like the clear appearance of Vajrasana (Bodh Gaya), the first consciousness that discriminates is grasped and arises, that is the mind consciousness. After that, whatever arises as acting in any way with attachment, aversion, or indifference, that is the grasping consciousness, which is called afflicted mind. The components, classifications, and scriptural references of these are very numerous, and I have not elaborated on them for fear of voluminous writing. Secondly, the determination of specific aspects has five parts: essence, location, path, function, and result. The essence of the mind is the consciousness of grasping and being grasped, the all-discriminating of the three realms. The mind is the alaya-consciousness, the mind is the constantly moving, acting on objects, the separate consciousness, the five sense consciousnesses. These three are consciousnesses of the same essence, are self-nature ignorance, and are the root of the five poisons. The location is in the subtle channel connecting the lungs to the heart, located in a place as thin as a hair tube. Just like the flow from the lungs to the heart, the heart is the location of wisdom, its inherent radiance mixes there like an eye, so it is said to be the "unclear, nine-clear" mind, which arises from sudden circumstantial parts. The path is from there, on the side of the vertebrae, there is a channel extending upwards, connected from the small tip to the mouth and nose, so it runs upwards. The function is to generate various thoughts due to the difference in karma. The result is to ripen into the illusory appearance of samsara. That is also called the "impure triple layering." The channel between the heart and lungs is the steed of breath, the radiance of wisdom. The essence is ignorance, the aspect is mind, the discrimination is mind. This is a collection possessing three aspects. From Self-Arisen it says: The reality of the impure place is, existing in the self-continuum of all sentient beings, the impure triple layering exists. That reality is like this: between the heart and lungs, it also exists in a triple layered way. From then on, it flows from the channels. The life force arises the path from the channels, the doors arise from the mouth and nose, there are eighty thousand of them. For those and other afflictions, they arise in various ways. And, in the Mirror of the Heart of Vajrasattva it says: The mind held by the life force of beings

In short, all beings are mostly possessed by afflictions, known as ignorance. It relies on the skandha of form as its basis and resides between the heart and lungs. It is not merely ignorance alone, but is called 'mind,' adorned with the collection of all habitual tendencies. It is called 'thought,' existing together with conceptualization. The union of these three is called ignorance, which is samsara itself. From this arise the five poisons and six emotions. From this arise sixty thousand afflictions. If one asks from where these arise, then in the middle connecting the lungs and heart, there is a red vein called the life vein, about the size of a bird's feather quill, extending upwards, and it also extends upwards along the edge of the spine. It is connected to the small vein on the left side. Then, it travels riding on the horse of breath. It travels through the mouth and nose. From this arise various kinds of karma and afflictions. The end. The second part is a detailed explanation of the difficult-to-understand place of wisdom, divided into two parts: the common distinctions and the determination of the special great secret. The first part includes: essence, definition, and classification. The essence of wisdom is the clear light of awareness, the essence of the Sugata (Tathāgatagarbha). As it says in the commentary on the Ornament of Clear Realization: Wisdom is not conceptual thought; its essence is the meaning of self-luminous essence. The definition is: because it is the supreme knowledge that has existed from the beginning, it is jñāna As it says in the commentary on the Ornament of Clear Realization: The definition is the meaning of having existed from the beginning; knowing now, it is jñāna. If classified, there are three types of wisdom: the wisdom of the base location, the wisdom of grasping characteristics, and the wisdom that pervades objects. As it says in the commentary on the Ornament of Clear Realization: The distinctions are considered to be three. And as it says in the Garland of Pearls: Wisdom itself is as follows: the pure wisdom of the base location, grasping characteristics, and pervading objects. Among these, the wisdom of the base location has three aspects: nature, essence, and compassion. The wisdom of grasping characteristics has five aspects: the wisdom of the Dharmadhatu, the mirror-like wisdom, the wisdom of equality, the wisdom of discernment, and the wisdom of accomplishing activities. The wisdom that pervades objects has two aspects: the knowledge of how things are (as they are) and the knowledge of how many things there are (as many as there are), which have been discussed before and will be explained in detail later. Secondly, the determination of the special great secret has eight aspects: essence, basis, place, palace, path, appearance, function, and result. First, the essence of wisdom is the basis mentioned earlier, the essence of the Sugata.
