I am beyond permanence and impermanence, therefore I do not cling to mere permanence. Luminosity can be seen through the guru's oral instructions, therefore I do not cling to the hidden that no one can see. The essence is emptiness, clarity, and non-duality, therefore I do not mix thumbs and other things with their own characteristics and dharma characteristics. Since there are no things and no characteristics, therefore I do not cling to the size of the body with the size and goodness or badness of the essence, and so on, there are very many differences. When non-Buddhists say that, although it is completely different from the essence of the Buddha, they are confused because only the name or the expression of words is similar. We think that your wisdom is foolish, just like when the king's sword was lost, a poor man dreamed of a sword in his dream, and suddenly woke up and asked for the sword. Because it was only a name and he did not see the real meaning, it is established as if he had not seen the sword. Also, in that sutra, it is said that foolish people all say that there is a self. This is like a poor man sleeping in another person's house, and suddenly waking up and saying sword, sword. If you ask the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, what is the characteristic of the so-called self? Some of them say that they cling to the self, and the so-called self has a characteristic as big as a thumb. Some people say that it is as big as a millet grain. Some people say that it is as big as a sesame seed. Some people say that the characteristic of the self dwells in the mind, burning and shining like the sun. In this way, ordinary people do not understand the characteristic of the so-called self, just as foolish people do not understand that good sword. When the Bodhisattva teaches the characteristic of the so-called self in this way, foolish people do not understand, so they distinguish in various ways and cling to the characteristic of the so-called self. This is like asking what the shape of the sword is like, and answering that it is like a horn. In this way, inferior fools constantly generate evil views. In order to cut off such evil views, the Tathagata taught non-self, just as the king said to the ministers, "I do not have such a sword in my treasury." Son of the lineage, the Tathagata thus speaks of the self.

The so-called indication of "ground" refers to Buddha-nature. Thus, that Buddha-nature, within the Dharma taught by the Buddha, is like a sword that is extremely bright and pure. Third, there are three points to generating joy with special conviction: If it is not indicated by a true virtuous friend, it cannot be seen; it is reasonable to rejoice because one obtains the meaning that is difficult to see from the supreme guru; even a Bodhisattva abiding on the ground finds it difficult to realize, so what need is there to mention ordinary beings, therefore, joy arises because it is the secret vajra place unique to the Buddha; if indicated by a true guru, one can see it directly, and naturally, self-appearance manifests in the bardo, therefore, one should know that joy arises. The first point, again, as it says in the same sutra: 'Son of good family, all sentient beings are the same, because they have not relied on a virtuous friend, even though they have Buddha-nature, they cannot see it.' The second point, as it says in the Noble Nirvana Sutra: 'Son of good family, for example, a blind person goes to visit a skilled doctor to cure his eyes. The doctor takes a golden knife and cuts the cataract in his eyes, then holds up one finger to show him, but the blind person says he cannot see it. If he holds up two or three fingers, he will see a little. Son of good family, if this Great Nirvana Sutra is not spoken, then countless Bodhisattvas, even if they have perfected the Paramitas and abide on the ten grounds, will not see Buddha-nature, just like that blind person. After the Tathagata speaks it, they will see a little. The Bodhisattvas, the great beings, having seen it in this way, will say: 'It is very wonderful! Blessed One, we have been wandering in samsara for countless kalpas, held by selflessness.' Son of good family, even if a Bodhisattva abiding on the ten grounds cannot clearly see Buddha-nature, what need is there to mention the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, let alone others?' The sutra speaks extensively. The third point, as it says in the Lion's Complete Great Power Sutra: All sentient beings
