Bound by (afflictions), the appearance of light and color naturally ceases; bound by karma and afflictions, the appearance of wisdom and dharmata naturally ceases. The appearance of the dying bardo is that the elements of the body are disturbed, therefore experiencing the suffering of the external body; the path of mental sensations is lost, therefore experiencing the suffering of the internal mind; the ocean of grasping and being grasped collapses, therefore experiencing the suffering of fear of losing the basis of connection between body and mind, and in reality, it is in a state of suffering from the fear of death. The appearance of the dharmata bardo is that, due to the loss of the basis of clinging to the aggregates, the appearance of the dharmakaya and wisdom naturally arises; due to the severance of the connection of karma and habitual tendencies, one naturally abides in the samadhi of inherent nature; due to the emptiness of the objects held by the senses, one enjoys the clear light of pure self-appearance. The appearance of the existence bardo is that the existence of the external body, like the appearance of a dream with a mind-made body, has no foundation; the existence of the internal mind enters into many arrogant states and constantly conceptualizes; the existence of the union of body and mind wanders without obstruction and experiences various sufferings. As it is said in the *Uttaratantra*: "The appearance of the intermediate state is that the aggregates abiding in their own nature and the elements and afflictions appear as objects. The dimness and wavering of dying, and consciousness does not abide in one place. The dharmata bardo is also the dharmakaya and wisdom, light and color. The spread of bindus and the appearance of the elements, whatever appears is the dharmata mandala. The appearance of the existence is flickering and wavering, like the appearance of a dream. The false appearance is the mind-made body, the lights of the six realms such as white, etc. The objects of each appear." Thus it is said. The second meaning is to explain in detail the nature of each, there are four: For the nature bardo, cutting off the superimpositions on what is to be known is like the instruction of a bird entering its nest; for the dying bardo, making the unclear clear is like the instruction of a beautiful woman looking in a mirror; for the dharmata bardo, having confidence in one's own appearance is like the instruction of meeting a person one has known before or a child entering its mother's lap; for the existence bardo, continuing the momentum of karma is like the instruction of a fox entering a broken dike. The first also has examples, two instructions of meaning, the example is that when a bird first builds its nest, to people, etc.
