It is like the appearance of an illusion. The magician, his mantra, and the play of the mantra, such as the illusory horse, cow, and elephant, if not examined and analyzed, appear without ceasing, one arising from another. Similarly, the power of awareness and the play arising from that power, appearing as samsara and nirvana, are merely appearances when not examined and analyzed. Upon examination, the horse, cow, and elephant are seen to be non-existent, a clear appearance; the sound of the mantra is emptiness, without trace; the magician's body is composed of indivisible particles; the mind is separated into one and many, and cannot be established. Likewise, all that appears as the play of samsara and nirvana, the container and its contents, are clearly seen to be non-existent; the power is self-luminous emptiness; awareness is transparent, dharma is exhausted, free from the extremes of one and many, transcending the realm of thought and expression. If, in a time of non-examination and non-analysis, one thinks that this appearance arises from the power of awareness, and therefore is knowledge, then we do not agree with such a mistaken notion. The illusory horse and elephant appear as the magician's play, but they are not the magician himself. If the illusory horse and elephant were the magician, then at the time of the illusory appearance, the magician would also be non-existent, or the magician would be non-existent before the appearance disappears. However, the magician does not cease to exist with the existence or non-existence and disappearance of the illusion, therefore, the two are not of the same essence. Similarly, appearance and one's own mind are not the same essence. Appearance does not follow me in going and coming, nor do I follow appearance in going and coming, therefore, they are not of the same essence. If one argues that since appearance is the play of awareness, it should follow me in going and coming, then the general appearance does not follow the particular in going and coming. Even when I am gone, mountains and the like remain, which is clear. The particular mountain, which is merely the play of appearance, disappears when that person dies. Therefore, each individual's play follows that individual in going and coming, and the general follows the general in going and coming. There is no fault in answering by distinguishing in this way. If one thinks that when oneself is gone, the mountain seen by oneself does not disappear, so the play remains, then that which remains is the general appearance object, a residual appearance, and not the appearance of the deceased. Furthermore, we have not admitted that the general play ceases, and there is a difference between appearance and the object of appearance, therefore there is no fault.

It is reasonable. Therefore, there is no connection between name and meaning. Since it appears, it has no inherent existence. Therefore, no matter what is examined or how it is examined, one should understand that it is merely a designation of emptiness. As it is said in the Arya Samadhiraja Sutra: "Just as some people have children and give them names, but if you search everywhere for that name, you cannot find it. All dharmas should be understood in the same way." And in the Prajnaparamita Sutra, it is also said: "Subhuti, all dharmas are merely designated names, mere designations, mere names, and are temporary. If you search everywhere for them, they are not found or seen within; they are not found or seen without; they are not found or seen between the two. Because their nature is emptiness." Now, from the perspective of elaborating on the principle of original liberation, the manifestation of the essence of the ground and the nature of its potential are shown to be originally liberated: without differentiation, liberated in the realm of spontaneous perfection. Without aggregation or separation, liberated in the realm of bindu. Whatever appears, liberated in the realm of indeterminacy. There are two ways in which the essence of awareness is liberated: liberation in the original purity of one's own essence, and liberation of all dharmas within that state. The original purity of one's own essence refers to the fact that since it is not established anywhere, from the perspective of being empty of things and characteristics, it is said to be liberated from the dharmas of samsara and nirvana, which is only a designation. The liberation of all dharmas within that state refers to the fact that through the realization of awareness as naked wisdom, all dharmas dissolve into non-objectivity, and awareness itself becomes naked. Merely manifesting this is called liberation within that state. Although it is said in this way, just as an object sinks into the ocean, it enters the state of awareness, and after entering, it disappears. After disappearing, there is nothing, because dharmas have no essence, and awareness has no essence. It is like the son of a barren woman who cannot be liberated in the water of a mirage. At this time, the three aspects of recognition, abiding, and practice are established on the basis of self-luminous wisdom. Recognizing that awareness is without differentiation and is originally liberated in the realm of spontaneous perfection. Through recognition, one enters the state of recognizing one's own essence, and recognizing one's own essence is like nakedly touching the original purity of the dharmata. Rising up from there is also called not leaving a trace in the sky, which means that the point of contact disappears. After realizing this, abiding in the clear state of awareness, without aggregation or separation, abiding in the realm of the single, luminous bindu.
