Without self-nature, it is merely a manifestation, appearing only as the Dharma of all afflictions and samsara. Thus, the basis of all arising and appearing—awareness—is of the same nature as a wish-fulfilling jewel, a treasury, a mirror, a crystal ball, brocade, a great garuda, a lion, an ocean, space, and the earth. As stated in the 'Pearl Garland': Such is the nature of mind, Fulfilling desires like a jewel, Complete with needs like a treasury, Manifesting what is shown like a mirror, Pure and clear like crystal, Manifesting variety like brocade, Without expansion or contraction like a great garuda, Perfect in the skill of viewing like a lion, Deep and pervasive like an ocean, Self-liberated like space, Stable in all ways like the earth, Superior to all realms. And so on. However, metaphors only represent one aspect, and nothing is entirely the same. Those with little wisdom, due to the self-nature of words, think that everything is the same, or exemplify it with wrong views. For example, with a jewel, only the aspect of having spontaneously perfect qualities is represented. If one clings to it as an inanimate object, one does not understand its meaning. Here, one should not entertain such bad doubts that do not understand the meaning. Among these, the jewel represents that the essence of awareness has spontaneously perfect qualities, and it is not to be thought of as an inanimate object. The treasury represents that needs are naturally fulfilled, and it is not to be thought of as a place or the self-nature of things, etc. The mirror represents that the basis of manifestation is unobstructed, and it is not to be thought of as the play of already manifested images, etc. The crystal represents that it is primordially pure and transparent, and it is not to be thought of as one aspect of purity and something that can be identified, etc. The brocade represents only that the manner of appearance is inexhaustible, and it is not to be thought of as established colors and shapes. The garuda represents that it abides in its own place without expansion or contraction, and it is not to be thought of as awareness existing in an empty realm. The lion represents that it is without fear or hope, and it is not to be thought of as a suppressor who suppresses others. The ocean represents the clear part, and it is not to be thought of as a clear and deep thing. Space represents that it is empty of the characteristics of things, and it is not to be thought of as a nihilistic annihilation. The earth represents the basis for qualities and so on, the root of the arising of the realm, and it is not to be thought of as on top of awareness.

Not thinking of the support and supported as the basis for the accomplishment of cyclic existence and nirvana, the appearances and awareness of cyclic existence and nirvana are beyond the extremes of existence and non-existence, and are the basis and the arising of appearances, etc. Now, explaining the nature of the inherent, natural state: In nature, cyclic existence and nirvana are impossible, the nature is naturally present. Good and bad, acceptance and rejection are impossible, the nature is naturally present. Abandonment and attainment, grasping and clinging are impossible, the nature is naturally present. The five poisons and afflictions are impossible, the nature is naturally present. Limitations and biases are impossible, the nature is naturally present. Effort and arising are impossible, the nature is naturally present. Merely labeling a direction does not obstruct, the nature is naturally present. Although various terms are used, the essence of ultimate awareness, in this and that Zang-ka, is beyond establishing, refuting, and expressing. Cyclic existence and, good and bad, acceptance and rejection, abandonment and attainment, afflictions, limitations, biases, effort, play, the place of arising, and what is called arising, have never been established. In the Prasangika (Thal 'gyur) it says: The realm of Dharma-nature and self-nature, The movement is empty and thoughts cease, The basis is complete, there is no path or result, The Dharma-nature is not made by anyone, By nature pure, it is free from elaboration, Conceptual distinctions are beyond the realm of objects, The arising of words and confusion is cut off. As it says. In the Klong Drugpa it says: Free from the elaboration of many symbolic words, Beyond all examination of non-existent dharmas, There is no Buddha and no sentient being. As it says. If it does not obstruct examination, why is there no effort or basis for arising? It is explained: Self-born wisdom, Dharma is exhausted, there is no name, What effort and play arise, the basis itself is without basis. Without bondage and liberation, the natural state abides by itself, Calling it liberation, the term vanishes by itself without a trace, Everything is and everything is not, examination does not contradict, From the beginning, it is called liberation in words. It is named by the very nature of non-establishment, because there is no connection between name and meaning. Meaning is without essence, and name cannot be found even if searched everywhere, therefore, what connection can be designated in the very nature of non-establishment of name and meaning? Awareness, its effort, play, and what is called self-liberation, are only considered as a branch of understanding symbols in the face of non-examination, for the sake of easy understanding. If awareness itself has no essence, how can there be a place of arising, arising, and various plays in meaning? However, from the very nature of non-existence, the manner of appearance does not cease to appear At that time, it is said.
