If you cling to purity and do not follow external objects, you will not be able to stay in one place. Without touching on this, take the clear wisdom, non-thought, and the state of being free from ego-clinging as the path. As it says in the "Lion's Roar Perfection": "The minds of sentient beings arise in two ways. The appearances of mind and ignorance are held by clinging to the non-existent. The appearances of awareness and wisdom are free from the mind of ego-clinging. There is no expectation for what exists, and doubts are cleared about what does not exist." Therefore, it is crucial to recognize this key point. As it says in the "Noble Jewel Heap Sutra": "Also separated from mind, intellect, and consciousness, and not abandoning the state of samadhi, this is the inconceivable secret of the hearts of the Tathagatas." The "Clear Words" also says: "The elaborations arising from mind and mental factors are also cut off." The "Introduction" also says: "Those who have stopped the mind, manifest it with their bodies." And so on, as these scriptures say. Nowadays, the meaning of these scriptures is difficult for most people to understand, and they have no idea what is being said. Here, it is explained as if opening the eyes, so it is called the treasury of the Great Vehicle. By distinguishing awareness abiding in its own nature, distinguish between shamatha-vipassana and single-pointed concentration: If the present awareness does not waver from its basis, then this habit will empty the existence of future lives. Separated from the karma and habitual tendencies of taking rebirth again, the cycle of cause and effect, samsara and nirvana are said to be equal. Not abiding in samsara and peace, reaching the essence of bodhi. This also cherishes half of shamatha-vipassana. This is the view of the Great Perfection of self-nature. Awareness abiding in its own nature is the clear, naked awareness, and single-pointed shamatha is the state of abiding without distraction, so it needs to be distinguished. By habituating to the state of awareness, the karma and habitual tendencies of taking rebirth again are exhausted, which arises from the merit of stopping the mind. Now, awareness is separated from the mind, and through habituation, the ultimate Dharmakaya, which is separated from the mind, is manifested. All awareness that is separated from the mind is unified without wavering from the basis. Like a continuous thread, it arises from the interdependent origination of manifesting the fruit. When samsara and nirvana arise as the play of the fundamental appearance, from the basis, the appearance of the play is non-dual, and is equal in clarity. When awareness is separated from the mind, because the essence is not established, it is equal, therefore, samsara and nirvana are non-dual.

Now, it is said that wisdom is equal, as stated in "The Treasury of Qualities": "Samsara and Nirvana are inherently not two, where can these two be established?" In "Commentary on the Bodhichitta" it says: "The difference between Samsara and Nirvana, is not possible to exist even slightly." In "Ornament of Clear Realization" it says: "Existence and peace are not separate." Regarding the distinction between Alaya Consciousness and Dharmakaya: If one moves from the original nature, that is the Samsara of consciousness. Cause and effect are within it, and cannot be avoided. Deluded beings go from one lower state to another. Therefore, the supreme secret Great Perfection is: not moving from the realm of reality, all functions return to the base. The mind does not waver, abiding in equality. The self-nature of awareness is like a mirror, the function is like clarity, and the manifestations from it are like reflections. When they appear, the self-nature of awareness abides in Dharmakaya, without moving from its original nature, this is Dharmakaya. Alaya Consciousness is unawakened pure awareness, unmarked and ignorant. If one abides in it, one will generate the obscurations of meditation due to the karma of the upper realms. From it, the aspect of Alaya Consciousness is the nature of consciousness, the six consciousnesses appear to objects, and the root consciousness radiates outward to objects, this is the pure karma of Samsara. In short, all phenomena of Samsara depend on Alaya Consciousness. Here, if a yogi does not distinguish between Dharmakaya and Alaya Consciousness, they cannot cut off the root of Samsara and Nirvana. Therefore, whatever Dharma is practiced will become an aid to Samsara, and in order to avoid this, it is explained in this way. Dharmakaya is pure awareness, nakedly revealed, free from elaboration, empty and clear. It is not the basis of karma and habitual tendencies. The essence is emptiness, therefore it is Dharmakaya. The self-nature is luminosity, therefore it is Sambhogakaya. Great compassion manifests uninterruptedly, therefore it is Nirmanakaya. The essence of Alaya Consciousness is unmarked ignorance, similar to formless consciousness, it is the ground of delusion. The self-nature is the aspect of Alaya Consciousness, the place where the root consciousnesses manifest. The function of great compassion is the six consciousnesses clinging to external objects. Through these, although many karmas of Samsara are accumulated, if one mainly habituates to abiding in the state of Alaya Consciousness, that is formless. If one habituates to abiding in the nature of consciousness of Alaya Consciousness, that is form. Through the six consciousnesses, the confusion of desire is opened. Now, meditating on Alaya Consciousness, and meditating on the nature of consciousness of Alaya Consciousness, is merely clear and non-conceptual, and cultivating the six consciousnesses so that thoughts arise and are immediately liberated.
