The state of equality. The nature of reality is profound, clear, and naturally arising wisdom, abiding free from arising, ceasing, hope, and fear. Just as when the ocean is not moved by the wind, stars appear, but although the stars appear, the water is not disturbed or stained. When awareness is thoroughly clear and unobstructed, even though objects appear, they are not tainted by grasping, so awareness remains undisturbed in its pure and clear state. From the absence of letters, the meaning of the "Great Ocean of Spontaneity" is: Appearance is not appearance, nor is it the cause of appearance. Emptiness is not emptiness, nor is it the emptiness that exists. Luminosity is not luminosity, but the realm of great luminosity. Sinking is not sinking, and agitation is naturally absent. It does not move or shift, nor does it change. It does not move or turn, transcending all movement. It does not arise from fabrication; look to the great method of abiding. Do not expand or contract; the state of single spontaneity. It is not abiding, nor is there any transcendence of it. Secret wisdom is like an ocean, spontaneously present from the beginning, abiding in the unmoved realm. From the great ocean of unfathomable depth, behold the summit of the victory banner that never sinks. There is no empty mind, but the great body of non-fabrication. Without fabrication, it triumphs over all fabrication. It is unborn from the beginning, the very spontaneity of non-fabrication. Appearance does not transform it, nor does the mind fabricate it. When the nature of reality abides in space, it is shown as the meaning. The wisdom of the Dharmakaya, having completely abandoned thought, is without movement, which is the meaning of meditation. If one does not grasp at the directions of objects, like stars appearing in the depths of the ocean. The unobstructed clarity of non-grasping, the way of abiding in meaning is just like that. Thus it is said. Here, some who are not skilled in the tantras, speaking out of ignorance, clinging to the letters of partial application, thinking that these four spontaneities are the methods of abiding in direct crossing, such thinking is a sign of not being connected to the Dharma and not knowing how to apply any practice. In the opening of the letterless lotus, in accordance with the sequence of words, it is in accordance with one aspect. But generally speaking, it can be applied to anything. Just as in the guidance of the "Precious Garland of Appearances," it is spoken of as being applied to all aspects. Whether it is Trekchö or Tögal, the root is this clear awareness, which must be known to be nakedly revealed. If one does not know this, then there is no benefit in applying it to anything. Trekchö is mixed with the path of all ignorant great meditators, spending their lives using methods of grasping at the mind.

With samsara, one cannot transcend samsara, and if Tögal clings to things and characteristics, one will fall into the realm of form. Therefore, it is crucial here to recognize naked awareness. It is not enough to merely recognize this; one must establish the fundamental ground. For that, it is crucial not to stray from that state. As a method, various ways of abiding have been taught. First, one must become accustomed to the state of mind that is like a vast ocean of stillness, so it is crucial to master this. Regarding this, there is also a sequence for cutting off the paths of straying. As it says in *Transcending Thought*: "The meditation that does not stray is when the sense faculties are clear, the mind's conceptualization is not scattered, the mind that examines awareness itself, does not stray outward, the object is not clear, it does not fall into nihilistic emptiness, it is not continuous bliss, it is not relaxed indifference, clear mindfulness rests, practice goes on a divergent path, clinging easily flows inward, clinging to clear images, and those who transform colors and letters, if one does not fall into those aspects, that is the meditation that does not stray." Thus it is said. Clinging to clear images refers to the act of thinking, "This is this," about external appearances. Those who transform colors and letters refer to the clinging of thinking and examining when the inner mind abides. The others are easy to understand. Awareness resting is: without a mind like a thread that is not expressed by words, naturally flowing, without fabrication or adulteration, merging into the dharmadhatu, without characteristics, without meditation and the object of meditation, sinking and rising freely, self-arising appearing in the state of mind. Awareness resting in Tögal is abiding in the radiant light of awareness in a continuous stream of bindus. Here, it is abiding in the actual, naked state of awareness, so the key point is extremely profound. When awareness abides in a state as clear as the ocean, recognize that bright, clear, naked state, and by not straying from it, the dharmata, without gaps or inner and outer, will appear as one taste. From the absence of letters: Awareness resting is the pith instruction, this is the ultimate secret. Thus it is said. Appearance, the single decisive state of mind, is: seeking the way to abide in awareness itself, it is the great secret among secrets, crossing to the other shore by the power of appearance, not bound by attachment, it is self-appearance. Thus it is said. This is called the single bindu appearing nakedly, as it says in that very tantra: Bindu.
