Recognizing that which abides nakedly in its own place, one immediately realizes that essence and self-display are non-dual. Therefore, it is called the sole bindu, the spontaneously arisen wisdom free from elaboration. As it is said in *Self-Arisen*: “When awareness is free from elaboration, Where is there delusion and ignorance? When wisdom is free from mind, Where are there imprints and stains?” And as it is said in *Destruction*: “In the nature of emptiness and clarity, awareness, Where is there any unmixed essence? The extremes of grasping and being grasped are exhausted, And the nature of phenomena is pure in its own state.” And as it is said in *Perfection of Power*: “The essence of self-arisen wisdom Is without mental discrimination. The realms of the past and the realms of the future, The appearances are directly cut off.” And as it is said in *Six Spaces*: “In the mind-essence of great equanimity, Through the emanation of vast expansiveness, The non-dual appearance is primordially connected, I, Kuntuzangpo, have taught. In the mind-essence without characteristics, The appearances of phenomena in number Is called self-liberation, non-duality, I, Kuntuzangpo, have taught. In the mind-essence beyond expression, The appearance of words free from a basis for discussion, Is called beyond speech and thought, I, Kuntuzangpo, have taught. In the mind-essence that cannot be sought, The great self-arisen appearance, The great self-arisen wisdom, I, Kuntuzangpo, have taught. In the mind-essence without stain, The appearance free from object-conditions Is called the realization of great self-purity, I, Kuntuzangpo, have taught. In the mind-essence without conceptualization, Through the unapprehended, unimpeded self-appearance, The face of the realm of self-knowing clarity, I, Kuntuzangpo, have taught. In the mind-essence without thought, The appearance of spontaneously present abundance Is called the realization of the ground of sound self-returning, I, Kuntuzangpo, have taught. In the mind-essence without memory, The appearance of moving self-purity Is called the samādhi of self-liberation from grasping, I, Kuntuzangpo, have taught. In the mind-essence without arising sensation, This appearance of unthoughtful insight Is called the realization of the exhaustion of going and coming, I, Kuntuzangpo, have taught. In the mind-essence without grasping, The appearance of unceasing purity Is called the samādhi of great enjoyment, I, Kuntuzangpo, have taught. In the mind-essence without apprehension, The appearance of great self-arising Is called the realization of unceasing non-thought, I, Kuntuzangpo, have taught.

The appearance free from bondage is called the great intention of self-abiding. Samantabhadra speaks thus. In the mind-essence that is without permanence or annihilation, the appearance free from good and bad is called the great intention of abandoning and adopting. Samantabhadra speaks thus. In the mind-essence without acceptance or rejection, the appearance of self-liberation without bias is called the great intention of vast expanse. Samantabhadra speaks thus. In the mind-essence without sinking or excitement, the great equanimity of awareness is called the great intention of the six aggregates being at ease. Samantabhadra speaks thus. In the mind-essence without fear, the appearance free from hope and doubt is called the great intention of original abiding with confidence. Samantabhadra speaks thus. In the mind-essence without appearance of parts, the appearance of a single subtle part is called the great intention of great freedom from elaboration. Samantabhadra speaks thus. These are also the self-nature free from elaboration, and when its power arises, do not examine outwardly, do not investigate inwardly, do not dwell in the middle. Merely recognizing the clear, naked awareness that is free from grasping and conceptualization, one realizes that the self-nature free from elaboration is just that, nothing else, and thus realizes the non-dual, self-arisen wisdom. The terms "essence" and "power" may lead one to think that wisdom has two states, abiding and arising. Therefore, one leaves the essence without contemplation, and claims to "cultivate the arising power into liberation," resulting in practice falling into duality, which is a failure to understand the key point. This is a sign of not truly comprehending. Although self-nature and power are spoken of as distinct here, the appearance of objects in self-nature is like the reflection of an image in a mirror. Because the substance is one and the essence is one, there is nothing other than that very naked awareness. When cultivating the arising, the self-nature abides on the ground of naked self-nature. Even when cultivating what appears to be abiding, the clarity of awareness does not cease, and the manner of arising is naturally clear, like an image. The arising awareness, like an image, and the self-abiding wisdom, like the surface of a mirror, are not separate but inseparable. The nature of self-nature, which is clear, free from elaboration, and primordially pure, is the essence of the exhaustion of phenomena. It is called self-arisen wisdom, that is, the wisdom of clear light, the ultimate truth, the dharmakaya of primordial liberation, the mind of awareness and enlightenment, etc. Whatever name is given, one must recognize this unadulterated, naked, primordially pure, self-luminous nature.
