The five afflictions of bondage, originally arising and appearing in awareness, do not meet with the co-emergent one. Thus it is said. Just as samsara being primordially enlightened also appears as the self-display of awareness, so too, nirvana is merely the purification of the self-display of the Buddha himself, and there is nothing else besides. This is what is taught: The Buddhas of the three times are the purity of self-display, without acceptance or rejection, all being equal and of one taste. There is not even a particle to be obtained from elsewhere. All dharmas are clear in the vast expanse of mind itself, and there is not the slightest deviation from the meaning of equality. Awareness is merely purified from adventitious stains. Apart from that, one should not seek the essence of Buddhahood from causes and conditions and the mind of effort and striving, because the purity of awareness is called Buddhahood. That appearance of Buddhahood is also not other than the way awareness appears. Enlightenment in the realm of bodhicitta is also not a place to be found elsewhere. As it says in the Guhyagarbha Tantra: "In any direction or time, a fully perfected Buddha cannot be found. Mind itself is the fully perfected Buddha, do not seek a Buddha elsewhere. Even if you search, the Victorious Ones will not find it." And as it says in the Kunjed Gyalpo: "Phenomena, existence, dharma, and non-phenomena, bodhicitta, the suchness of mind arises as suchness. If suchness is not realized, one sees various separate appearances. If suchness is sought from the realm, even the Buddhas of the three times will not find it." And as it says: "The Buddhas of the past also saw and realized their own unaltered mind from the beginning." Thus it is. If one realizes the self-nature of such awareness, then mistakes and obscurations will be cut off by themselves. There is no inside or outside, no arising or ceasing, no confusion. The root that dispels the darkness of the extremes is bodhicitta. Without abandoning anything, mistakes are naturally cut off. The essence of awareness is beyond acceptance and rejection, action and effort. Because there is nowhere else to go and nothing to see, there are no mistakes or obscurations. By resting in the essence of awareness itself, and then separately making effort and meditating, mistakes and obscurations arise. As it says in the Kunjed Gyalpo: "This very nature of bodhicitta is the essence of all dharmas without exception. Because it is unborn and completely pure, there are no obscurations. Because it is free from the path of going, there are no mistakes. Because it is spontaneously accomplished from the beginning, there is nothing to seek. The essence of all dharmas is the one bodhicitta. By enumerating the one in various ways, mistakes and obscurations arise."

Though there is nowhere to go, straying occurs by going. Though looking without object, obscuration arises by not seeing. Thus it is said. Showing that whatever appears in the state of awareness does not move from the expanse: The various appearances of beings, the world, and even the pure body and wisdom of the Buddhas, arise from the power of realization and non-realization. The unceasing play pervades the entire expanse of space. In the state of the Dharmadhatu, there is only the difference between realization and non-realization. Realization is the appearance of the pure Sugatas, and non-realization arises from the habitual tendencies of ignorance, grasping, and fixation. Though various things appear, they do not move from the expanse. Though the self-arisen wisdom of the expanse appears as Buddhas if one recognizes one's own face, and as sentient beings if one does not, both are of one taste in the state of awareness, so there is no limitation or partiality. As it says in the All-Creating [Tantra]: All that is included in appearance and existence, the container and its contents, and all that is included in Buddhas and sentient beings, is made by me, the All-Creating Bodhi. Therefore, everything is nothing but the Bodhi-mind. Since there is nothing else, everything is shown to be the Bodhi-mind. Thus it is said. Such awareness is shown to be the great, empty-clear, and unceasing. The Bodhi-mind is the basis of everything. Though various things appear without ceasing in their characteristics, the self-luminous Dharmata, the clear expanse, is without distinction, the expanse of unconfined awareness. Like a flawless crystal ball, its essence is empty-clear, and in the unborn state where nothing is established, the unceasing play manifests in various ways. As it says in the Self-Arisen Awareness [Tantra]: It does not fall to one side, it is not limited. There is no inside or outside, it is vast. Pure, without stain, like a crystal ball, it is said that appearances have no inherent existence. Thus it is said. Its nature is explained in detail as follows: The unobstructed wisdom, the self-arisen expanse, is vast, unobscured, without inside or outside, and luminously clear. The self-aware mind is like a great mirror of light, a wish-fulfilling jewel, the precious Dharmadhatu. Without searching, everything arises spontaneously. The glory of the self-arisen wisdom arises as all that is desired. The self-arisen wisdom of the expanse, the pinnacle of the spontaneously accomplished jewel, is naturally luminous, and its stainless rays radiate and pervade all of samsara and nirvana, so it is called the great mirror of light of the Bodhi-mind. The essence of the vast Dharmata is beyond comprehension. As it says in the Lion's Perfected Power [Tantra]: The Great Perfection, my
