One should not think in such a bad way. Thus, a jewel represents the nature of awareness as having spontaneously perfect qualities. One should not think of it as a material object. A treasury represents the spontaneous fulfillment of needs. One should not think of it as a place or an object with its own characteristics, and so on. A mirror represents the unobstructed basis for manifestation. One should not think of it as the play of reflections that have already appeared, and so on. Crystal represents primordial purity and transparency. One should not think of it as purity being only on one side or as having something that can be grasped, and so on. Silk represents the non-cessation of appearances. One should not think of it as being established as colors and shapes. A garuda represents the absence of contraction and expansion in its own place. One should not think of awareness as existing in the realm of emptiness. A lion represents the absence of fear and hope. One should not think of it as a suppressor who suppresses something. The ocean represents clarity. One should not think of it as deep inner clarity. The sky represents emptiness of things with characteristics. One should not think of it as utter nothingness. The earth represents the basis for the manifestation of qualities and so on, as the root of arising. One should not think of it as a basis and what is based upon it, with a connection established on top of awareness, because the appearances of samsara and nirvana and awareness are beyond the extremes of existence and non-existence, and because of the basis and the arising of appearances, and so on. Now, explaining the real nature of the natural state: In the nature, samsara and nirvana are impossible, naturally abiding. Good and bad, acceptance and rejection are impossible, naturally abiding. Abandoning and attaining, grasping and fixation are impossible, naturally abiding. The five poisons and afflictions are impossible, naturally abiding. Limitations and biases are impossible, naturally abiding. Skills and arising are impossible, naturally abiding. Merely labeling a direction is unstoppable, naturally abiding. Even though various terms are applied, in ultimate terms, the nature of awareness is clear and empty, because it transcends establishing, refuting, and expressing this and that. Samsara and nirvana, good and bad, acceptance and rejection, abandoning and attaining, afflictions, limitations, biases, skills, play, the place of arising, and arising are said to have never been established, because it says in the Prasangika: The dharmata realm and self-nature, Movement, emptiness, and exhaustion of thoughts, The basis, completion, path, and result do not exist, The dharmata is not made by anyone. By its own nature, it is pure and free from elaboration, Various discriminations transcend the object, The arising of words is a stream of confusion.

It means severance. Thus it is said. Also, in the Six Spaces it says: 'Free from the elaboration of many indicative words, transcending all investigations of things, there is no Buddha and no sentient being.' Thus it is said. Why is it that investigation is not prevented, yet there is no skill or plan? It is explained: 'In self-arisen wisdom, dharma is exhausted and there is no name. How can skill and play arise when there is no basis? There is no bondage or liberation; the nature of reality is naturally present. 'Liberation' is a term designated, naturally vanishing without a trace. Since everything is and everything is not, it does not contradict investigation. Therefore, 'liberated from the beginning' is spoken in words.' It is named by the very nature of non-establishment, because there is no connection between name and meaning. The meaning is without essence, and the name cannot be found even if sought everywhere. Therefore, what connection can be specified in the very nature of non-establishment of name and meaning? Awareness, its skill, play, and self-liberation are merely easy-to-understand investigations as branches of understanding terms in the uninvestigated state. If awareness itself has no essence, how can there be a place to arise from it, something that arises, and various plays that exist in meaning? However, from the very nature of non-existence, the appearance of phenomena does not cease but appears.

Just as a magician doesn't perform magic after the present and the past, these two are not the same entity. It is the same with appearance and one's own mind not being the same entity, because appearance does not change with me, and I do not change with appearance, so they are not the same entity. If it is said that because it is the play of awareness, appearance should change with me, that is not correct. Because the universally existing appearance does not change with the individually existing appearance. Even if I am gone, mountains etc. still exist, which is obvious. The play of the individually existing mountain, which is merely an appearance, disappears when that person dies. Therefore, each one's play changes with each one, and the universal one changes with the universal one. Answering separately, there is no fault. If it is thought that when I am gone, my appearance of the mountain has not disappeared, and the play remains, that is because what remains is the universally existing object of appearance. That is the remaining appearance, not the appearance of the dead person. We have not admitted that the universal play will cease. Because there is a difference between appearance and the object of appearance, there is no fault, and it is reasonable. Therefore, name and meaning are not related. Because appearance has no self-nature, observation and the object of observation are not established, and whatever appears, whatever is observed, one should know that it is only a term for emptiness. As the noble Samadhiraja Sutra says: Just as some people have children and give them names, but searching everywhere for the name cannot be found, know that all dharmas are the same. Also, in the Prajnaparamita Sutra it says: Subhuti, all dharmas are only symbols, designations, names, and accidental, and if searched everywhere, they cannot be found or seen within, nor can they be found or seen without, nor can they be found or seen between the two, because their self-nature is emptiness. Now, from the extensively explained way of being liberated from the beginning, it shows that the nature of the basis of appearance and the skill are liberated from the beginning: There is no separation, liberated in the spontaneously accomplished space. There is no gathering or separation, liberated in the space of bindus. Whatever appears, it is liberated in the indefinite space. The essence of awareness has two ways of liberation: one's own essence is liberated in the primordially pure, and all phenomena are liberated within that. One's own essence is where
