Pa. Like a fingernail in a dark cave. Without understanding this unsurpassed tantra, wanting to practice it is like entering a dangerous mountain path. Thus it is said. To explain these meanings slightly: If all appearances and mind are not understood to be one taste in the state of awareness, unborn, self-appearing, and without a basis. Although one wants to manifestly realize the nature of mind through the order of vehicles and many distinctions of view and meditation, holding onto words as reality is like a weary traveler burdened by a heavy load. It is blissful to abandon the dharma of words. If one does not understand that awareness, primordially pure, in the sphere free from elaboration, is self-luminous, naked, and clear, the non-dual emptiness and clarity are primordially connected. Merely meditating in a state of non-conceptual focus will not stabilize the ground of dharmata, one will not see the nature of reality, and one will not cross the dangers of grasping and being grasped. It is like a person who digs at the waist of Mount Meru, yet hopes to cut it off. It is blissful to pull out the stake of clinging to the mind. If one does not recognize that awareness has its own natural samadhi, and hopes to abide in meditation through the key points of body posture and prana-mind, it is like an artist being attached to his own painting, and there is no time to meet with the intention of dharmata. It is blissful to abandon the path of effort. If one does not understand that the empty forms that arise as the play of the naked power of awareness are merely clear appearances without substance, some grasp appearances as their own mind, and some grasp them as other external things. It is like a tree whose heartwood has withered, and no leaves will grow. It is fruitless and meaningless. It is blissful to abandon all clinging to the idea that appearances are this or that. In general, appearances arise as the play of power. If clinging is pure, they appear as pure, and if impure, they appear as confused. From the time of appearance, it is merely the play of power, and there is nothing inside or outside, and nothing is established. Therefore, it is the baseless empty form, merely clear appearance. This has been said before. If one does not understand that the essence, nature, and compassion of awareness are the three kayas, the ultimate truth, and thinks that the sphere of ultimate truth is somewhere with an empty void. It is like an elephant returning to its own home, but not knowing that it is inside, instead chasing after its footprints and searching everywhere, but not finding it. Therefore, it is blissful to abandon the thought of searching for the nature of reality. If one does not understand that awareness is the exhaustion of dharma, naked, clear, and bright.

If one clings to awareness as the empty form and radiant clarity of outer appearances, one will not escape the fetters of grasping and being grasped. It is like a bird tied with thread, wanting to fly but only able to move within the thread's reach. Therefore, it is blissful to abandon clinging to the purity and liberation of luminous appearances. If one does not realize the meaning of resting as it is and self-liberation in the very place where awareness dawns, and instead clings to partial understandings of emptiness, bliss, clarity, non-action, and so on, thinking, "I have realized the view!" and claiming to be realized, it is like a beggar with nothing new, merely changing clothes and pretending to be a king. Therefore, it is blissful to abandon the view of conceptual mind. As it says in the Root Wisdom Treatise: "For the sake of abandoning all views, what did you, Gautama (梵文天城体:गौतम,梵文罗马拟音:Gautama,汉语字面意思:乔达摩), speak?" It is just like that. If, with arrogance and confidence in conceptual mind, one boasts, "I have realized the view! It is non-action!" this is unrelated to the true meaning and is a shameless statement. Who but a foolish, ignorant person would proclaim such a thing? It is the desire of those whose eye of wisdom is closed and who have entered into many wrong paths. This perverted view contradicts the sacred Dharma and is therefore greatly condemned by the wise. If one truly realizes the meaning of unbornness, the delusion of clinging to things will be destroyed. There will be no clinging to the signs of heat in the body and speech, no fear of death, the body will become moist and youthful, and there will be no white hair or wrinkles, and so on. If none of these signs are present, yet one says, "I have realized the unborn," it is like an echo in an empty valley. Therefore, it is blissful to abandon the rambling talk of non-realization and the clinging of conceptual mind. If one has not fully familiarized oneself with the meaning of the empty-clear continuum, the naked face of awareness, which is unestablished as a thing and without cessation, and claims that the illusion of samsara and the clinging to illusion have ceased, it is like pointing a finger in the dark, where neither oneself nor others can see. The grasping and being grasped aspects of illusion cannot be eliminated. Therefore, it is blissful to abandon targeted, conceptual meditation. If one does not know the self-nature of the unsurpassed continuum, the naked essence of awareness and the exhaustion of phenomena, no matter how one practices methods and efforts, even if it seems decisive at the moment, in the end it is like unwashed dirty clothes, full of doubt and conceptual errors. Therefore, abandon straying and obscurations.
