Whatever ten practices I have taught, are indeed spoken from the perspective of sudden confusion arising from function. It is a method of entering through gradual effort, according to the order of faculties. The meaning of Atiyoga Vajra Essence is not taught as it is to the yogis. But for the sake of guiding those who enter gradually and have diligence, into the realm of primordial Dharma-nature. The vehicles of Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas, are the order of teaching to the three lesser vehicles. Kriya, Upayoga, three aspects. The three middling ones are accomplished by the natural state. Maha, Anu, Ati, three aspects. The three great ones are the primordial appearances. By opening the door of the Dharma of the cause-and-effect vehicle, it guides fortunate beings into the three Bodhis. All must ultimately enter the meaning of Vajra Essence, this great secret, wondrous place. The supreme peak of all, the unchanging luminosity, is known as the vehicle of manifest enlightenment essence. There are also two kinds of Dharma, those with acceptance and rejection, and effort. It is taught to purify the habits of mind and mental events, from the nature of arising as play from function. Those consider that wisdom is purified from the mind. The great Dharma without acceptance and rejection, without effort, is the self-arisen wisdom, the very nature of Bodhicitta. Remaining directly in its essence, without wavering, it manifests, so there is no need to strive externally. Abiding in oneself, one does not seek elsewhere. This is the meaning of the very essence of the sun. It is considered to abide in self-existing luminosity, in an unmoving state. Others teach that the sun is like the primordial accomplisher, through the effort of clearing away clouds and darkness. Therefore, the difference between these two is like heaven and earth. Nowadays, the elephants who boast of being Atiyoga, mistake the fluctuating thoughts for Bodhicitta. All this ignorance is a realm of darkness, far from the meaning of the Great Perfection of self-nature. If they do not even know function and what arises from function, what need is there to speak of the essence of Bodhicitta? Here, the Bodhicitta that is primordially pure, the Dharma-nature truth of ultimate reality, is the Prajnaparamita beyond speech and thought. Naturally unmoving, self-luminous, and from the very beginning free from the elaborations of fluctuation, it is called the essence, like the heart of the sun. Its function is the uninterrupted manner of appearance, awareness that is transparent, free from both conceptualization and speculation. Although clearly manifest, it is without grasping or being grasped. The awareness that arises from function is the elaboration of

Lo! From that arise various habitual tendencies of grasping and being grasped. The five objects that are grasped as places where there are no places, and the five afflictions that grasp as self where there is no self. All the deluded appearances of the outer and inner world, the vessel and its contents, the appearances in samsara that arise again from the play of awareness, are the very appearances that are wrongly grasped due to non-recognition. From where they have not come, to where they have not gone, they do not abide anywhere, in the vast expanse of the nature of reality. Understanding this is said to be the realization that completely liberates the three realms. This is the prophecy of Ati Lhundrup Dorje Nyingpo. It arises from the expanse of Kuntuzangpo's vastness. In the essence of the utterly pure bodhicitta, there is no object of viewing, and no dharma to be viewed. There is not even a particle of an object to be viewed or a viewer. There is no mind to meditate, and no dharma to be meditated upon. Since practice and the object of practice are non-dual and spontaneously accomplished, there is not even a particle of a result to be accomplished. Since there is no ground to traverse in the non-existent dharma, there is also no path to be traversed from the very beginning. Since it is already established as a great sphere of clear light, there is no mandala created by the arising and gathering of conceptual thoughts, no mantras and recitations, no empowerments and samayas. There is no dissolution of stages and so forth, no inconceivable completion stage. In the spontaneously accomplished kaya and jñana from the very beginning, there are no compounded, sudden, adventitious causes and effects. If these exist, it is not self-arisen jñana. Since it is compounded, it is of the nature of disintegration. What is the meaning of spontaneously accomplished and uncompounded? Therefore, in the essence of ultimate reality, there are no ten natures that transcend cause and effect. There is no effort or accomplishment, the true meaning of mind itself. May you know that all elaborations of existence and non-existence are pacified. From the Treasury of the Dharmadhatu, the fifth chapter, which is the chapter on transcending effort, accomplishment, cause, and effect, is complete. Sixth Chapter: Showing that all are included in the Bodhicitta. Just as all the rays are included in the essence of the sun, all the roots of the dharmas are included in the bodhicitta. The impure delusions of existence and samsara, the vessel and its contents, are also included in the nature of mind, which is groundless and primordially liberated, when the basis of their arising and the realm in which they abide are examined. In the nature of the dharmata, the vast expanse of primordial space, delusion and non-delusion, name and meaning, are included beyond. The pure self-appearances, the kayas and pure lands, and the wondrous play of wisdom and activity, are also included in the self-arisen nature, without gathering or dispersing. All of existence, samsara, and nirvana are included in the bodhicitta. Like the sun and the sky, it is empty and clear, uncompounded. Primordial
