Having gone for refuge to the Buddha, one does not prostrate to non-Buddhist gods, from the god Ishvara to worldly gods. Having gone for refuge to the Dharma, one does not harm sentient beings. Having gone for refuge to the Sangha, one does not associate with non-Buddhists or slander cause and effect. As it says: Those who have gone for refuge to the Buddha, should never rely on or go for refuge to other gods. Those who have gone for refuge to the Dharma, are free from the mind of harming and injuring. Those who have gone for refuge to the Sangha, do not associate with non-Buddhists. Thus it is said. Even if one sees their images, one should worship them with faith and not be disrespectful with arrogance, etc. Generating the Mahayana mind is: From then on, generating the supreme mind of enlightenment is wanting Buddhahood for the sake of others, which is of two natures, aspiration and engagement. The essence of generating the Mahayana mind is wanting to attain Buddhahood for the sake of others. As it says in the Ornament of Clear Realization: Generating the mind is for the sake of others, wanting perfect complete Buddhahood. Thus it is said. If divided, like preparing to go, wanting to attain Buddhahood is aspiration, and like going, pervading by practice is engagement. As it says in the Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life: The mind of enlightenment, in brief, should be known as twofold, the mind of aspiring for enlightenment and the very engagement in enlightenment. Just as one knows the difference between wanting to go and going, likewise, the wise should gradually know the difference between these two. Thus it is said. Here, the difference between mind and mental factors is shown: By generating the mind, mental factors arise simultaneously. Mind is the essence of the object, knowing by its own power; mental factors are the distinctions of the object, knowing by their own power. Mind is the essence of the object, like a pillar, knowing by its own power, while mental factors know the distinctions of the object, such as thickness and thinness, by their own power. As it says in the Differentiation of the Middle and the Extremes: Therein, consciousness sees the object, and mental factors arise from its distinctions. Thus it is said. Since mind and mental factors occur simultaneously, like the sun and its rays, generating the mind also causes mental factors to arise. It is understood that after generating the mind, it is not necessary to generate mental factors first. Thinking about whether the method of generation exists or not by determining whether the mind exists or not: In the time of samsara, mind and mind

Oh, arising from the earth! Because of the various movements of actions and agents, wisdom does not appear, therefore, generate the mind; in order to make wisdom extremely clear, establish its power. Although it would be sufficient to generate non-conceptual wisdom from the beginning, why generate a mind with faults? Indeed, because in this realm of samsara, wisdom does not actually appear at all times, it is necessary to generate this (mind) that engages in conceptualization for any mind. By generating it, one can establish the power of wisdom, so there is no fault. In general, aspiration is the generation of mind with the object of combining the subsequent. Engagement is the generation of mind into wisdom during the time of meditative equipoise. The Sutra of Illusions also says that the mind is generated into wisdom. Emaho! Wonderful and marvelous Dharma, is the secret of all perfect Buddhas, from the unborn, all are born, from the very moment of birth, it is unborn. Thus it is said. In the ten bhumis, at the end of the continuum, the mind ceases, and even if the mind of enlightenment that is nearly attained from the generation ritual is reversed, because it is divided into the capable wisdom, it increases in the Buddha's realm, accomplishes the benefit with great compassion, and is called the mind of enlightenment that has abandoned obscurations. That is, at the last moment of the continuum of the ten bhumis, when the first wisdom of the Buddha appears, the mind and mental factors cease. Therefore, even if the mind of enlightenment generated by it and obtained through the ritual ceases, the wisdom that was previously generated into ultimate wisdom and the wisdom that established its power does not cease. Because the power of that realm's freedom from obscurations becomes clear, it is called the mind of enlightenment that has abandoned obscurations in order to accomplish the benefit of sentient beings. The Ornament of the Sutras says: The mind of enlightenment is in the bhumis, with aspiration and pure superior intention, likewise, it is the abandonment of obscurations, and maturation is considered different. Thus it is said. Just as the same stream of water changes its name at the mouth of different valleys, the single mind of aspiration and engagement is also the mind of enlightenment that arises from aspiration during the time of accumulation and junction; from the first to the seventh bhumi, it is the mind of enlightenment with pure superior intention; in the three pure bhumis, it is the mind of enlightenment that is matured; in the Buddha bhumi, it is the mind of enlightenment that has abandoned obscurations. Even though there is no mind of enlightenment that arises from ritual in the Buddha bhumi, and no mind of enlightenment that is to be obtained now, it accomplishes the benefit with great compassion.
