Thus, for those in samsara, there is no detachment from desire. In which realms are there beings who have not been reborn hundreds of times? What kind of happiness has not been experienced many times before? And so on. As it is said in the "Letter to a Friend": 'Each one has drunk more milk than the four great oceans, yet following after sentient beings, the milk drunk is even greater.' And so on. Thinking about the benefits of liberation, one is advised to definitely escape from samsara: 'From such a meaningless samsara, the means of liberation is nirvana, the supreme nectar of peace and coolness, constant, stable, unchanging, and free from elaboration, the qualities of the self-nature body are complete, without old age or death, free from defilements and turbidity, and a place of benefit and happiness, a refuge and helper for sentient beings, the wise should strive to go there.' Samsara appears distressing and is a difficult-to-cross pit of fire with faults, but nirvana is a delightful forest of peace and coolness, rich with qualities such as strength and fearlessness. Because there is no old age or death, it is a constant, stable, and unobstructed excellent and supreme place. After going there oneself, one is also advised to strive with upright means. In the Great Vehicle's instruction manual, the "Wish-Fulfilling Treasure Trove," the seventeenth chapter, which is the extensive commentary on understanding samsara as suffering and thinking of nirvana as happiness, is complete. Chapter Eighteen: Commentary on the Chapter on Ascertaining the Nature of Reality. Thus, having completed the examination of the meaning of pure thought, in order to manifest that meaning, the third aspect is to generate wisdom arising from meditation in the mindstream. The basis for ascertaining the object to be ascertained should be understood: the preliminary to meditating on the meaning, the main practice of abiding in the state of clear light, the subsequent practice of taking the path and warmth, and the ultimate result of accomplishment. Among these five, the first, the basis for ascertaining the object to be ascertained, which is also common, has already been ascertained in the context of wisdom arising from hearing, by understanding the tenets of the schools. Now, the uncommon, the spontaneously accomplished mandala, the essence of the Sugatas, which is the basis of the path of the Secret Mantra Vajrayana, the nature of clear light, inconceivable, is being taught. Thus, everything to be contemplated is complete.
